FH is worried that the people from out of state will think CH is 'the meal'
We were picking out our menu last night and he started thinking that his family, and all his parents friends from Maryland will think CH is the only meal of the night because its so much food
He asked if we could put it in the program 6:00-7:00 Cocktails and Appetizers 7:00-11:00 Reception and sit-down dinner
Don't you think thats lame to put in a program?? Can you think of any other ways to get the word out?

I'd say word of mouth is best.

why do you have to tell them? They will find out for themselves when you sit down? Is it that you are afraid they will fill up on the cocktail hour and have no room for the entree? I

Just put cocktail hour...they should know.
We have a lot of out of towners...and a lot not from NY so they are not familiar with this sort of reception itenarary.....
Just do cocktail hour....and then when next course comes....just let the old 'shock and awe'..set it

I actually worry a little about this myself. MY FH's family is from SC, so I'm afraid they'll think the same thing!!! I personally wouldn't put it in the program, just my opinion. I think I'll just make my FH work it in to conversation with his family when he talks about the wedding!

I love when out of towners go to weddings in the tri-state area. They are always sooo shocked by the amount of food (except Nina of course )
I don't think you have to put it in the program. I am sure they will figure it out when the are told to enter the reception room.
And if they fill up at the CH who cares we all know the best food is at the CH anyway.
Mel your guest will have had their fill of 'baked salmon' by the time your dinner reception comes along..ZA ZING!

i agree with you, i wouldn't want to put it in the program either...
most people fill up on the cocktail hour food anyway so they won't be the only ones..

Interesting. I never though of his.
All of FH's fam is from upstate and his mom was shocked when I showed her the menus for dinner and cocktail hour. But then again weddings downstate are more expensive too.
I am not having a program, just figuring everyone will figure it out.

Am I the only one that thinks you are underestimating your guests Is the whole notion of cocktail hour really that foreign outside of New York

I was thinking the same thing. Why tell them? Just let them eat at the cocktail hour and then they will eat dinner..they may think 'Oh wow I thought what we just had was the dinner' and that may be a big on their face because they will realize there is more food

not the cocktail hour, but the amount of food at the CH. Honestly at most weddings outside of the NYC area the cocktail hour consists of cheese and crackers and veggies and dip. My outside friends think its crazy that we are having a carving station at our CH for example. Which is totally fine, but makes for a funny situation when non-New Yorkers come here for a wedding, or vice versa.

We were worried about the same thing and just casually let our out of town friends/family know that there will be more food after the cocktail hour and to pace themselves. Everyone was shocked at the amount of food and was thankful for the headsup.

AMEN!!
I went to a wedding once that consisted of a PLATE OF CHEESE as the entire meal LOL so when the bride and groom from that wedding come to MY wedding-- well, I'm worried haha b/c they are going to be blown away by the CH alone-- then when more food comes- they might just explode!
I would not want to put it on the program either so I agree with you on that... I guess word of mouth is the best way... or have the staff told beforehand that maybe they can kind of 'greet' people with 'welcome, cocktails and hor deurves (sp?!) will be served in this room and then you will be moving into the main room for your the remainder of your meal and entrees'
That's the only thing I can think of

I am putting a reception card in with the invite that says CH 630-730 and reception 730-1130.
