FH Rant

Original post by MrsList09

Does anyone else feel under appreciated? I feel like FH NEVER does anything special for me like flowers or cards or anything like that. He never really has for our entire relationship but now I'm busting my butt trying to get us a co-op because he's in finals. I could see if he was so busy but he can find the time to play football and watch the Jets game and he can find time to go buy the birds a new toy but can't leave me a note saying that he appreciates what I've been doing.

When he's having a rough time, I take him out to dinner or I just got him a gift card for a massage because he's been so stressed with finals and he's never done anything like that for me. I'm beginning to feel like a stupid door mat.

Plus the holidays are a little rough for me because I was so looking forward to FH proposing last year around now (I totally knew it was coming) and it would up being the most disappointing moment because he didn't put any effort into saying anything sweet or even setting up anything. And with all the jewelry commercials, it just gets to be too much.

Sigh.

I think sometimes you have to really spell things out for men. But we also sometimes expect them to be mind readers. He's going to be your husband you should talk about it. I had it out with my FH about watching and playing the ps3 instead of paying attention to me. I was actually crying b/c I felt neglected. He felt really bad and said he didn't realize I was feeling like that. He has not turned on the TV in our bedroom since. Now he watches TV in the Living room and our bedroom is our alone time together and we give eachother all the attention in the world. Its been great so far.

I understand what you mean, but I haven't experienced this with my FH, I experienced it with my last boyfriend. It was enough to make me break up with him because I wanted to feel like a queen, and FH does that for me. We're poor at the moment (thanks to the wedding), but he still tells me every day how great I am and how much he loves and appreciates me. Honestly, after some crappy relationships, it's a deal breaker for me. I couldn't spend the rest of my life with someone who didn't appreciate me.

Re: FH Rant

i had this problem w/FH long before we got engaged. the spark was almost gone and our relationship became very boring. no excitement, nothing. no surprises, sweet converstaions, flowers etc... so i had this long talk with him (and i cried) and he definitely made efforts to change and things have gotten 100% better. i feel like this is normal in a relationship... however, healthy relationships are built on communication and if you're not talking to him you'll end up blowing up at him for the silliest reason- meanwhile, there is the bigger issue. and if that happens, he'll see it as your fault and you won't be able to get your point across.
