I hope he gets called for the Jan academy. He has a degree in Phys Ed but there are zero jobs on long island for that. It's so fustrating for him, having done all that college and then he can't get a job. He has finally decided to move on and become a police officer. He took Suffolk, Nassau and he's taking Long Beach next month. I hope something works out because we are getting married and he can't waitor/ sub forever!!!

Good luck with everything. FH took the NYPD test this summer and just got a letter that all of a sudden you need college. Good thing your FH does - now with all the raises they are trying to cut back on cops.

good luck to FH my brother is in the academy now and i see what he goes through! but it isnt a big deal after the first few months that they 'test' you to see if you are tough enough

Good luck to your FH. My FH was in the academy before all the raises went through and it was a major pay cut for him, but the retro checks definitely came in handy when the increase got approved. NYPD has required a college degree for a few years now. From what I hear it's going to be a little harder to get through now because of all the people applying. The academy sux big time, and if he gets through it will probably mean many lonely nights and weekends for you. FM me if you have any questions.

James has a batchlors and is in excellent physical condition. He works out almost everyday and is certified as a personal trainer so im not worried about him getting called.

why doesnt he look for a city gym position? they'd hire in seconds bc not many people have that licence. if he likes nypd, then good luck to him. my fh is becoming a sergeant. its a very stressful job, and when he first gets placed he might not go to the greatest of areas.

For everyone whose FH is on the job, I certainly agree with you, a lot of free evenings and weekends because of his schedule. In this time and economy its a great job to have, because of the job security. Good luck and I hope it works out for you!

Before they uped the salaries they did drop the college requirements but than they reinstated them.

My FH is NYPD as well, i am sure your FH will have no prob getting in!
FH is taking Long Beach next month as well, hopefully he will get in because he's been dying to work on LI for a while... but its SO competitive

It is ok what are you going to do. The NYPD doesn't seem like they know what they want LOL. One minute they are desperate for cops, the next they are trying to cut back.

Good luck! My dad was a cop FORever... and he loved it. We've got a couple of cops in the family (I'm Irish, y'all), so I know how hard it is, but I'm sure FH will do great!

We had the same problem..pat waited 2 years after he took the border protection officer test...he got called in march and went to the academy in Georgia in august (he is coming home in 3 week.. it 15 weeks total)
thank god we got to see each other 10 weekends out of the 15
In the beginning i was upset that he had to be away for so long but now that its almost over it was worth it.... but he did construction for 2 years after college while he waited...he also took port authority and state trooper test...he scored very high on both but they never contacted him after he got the results...hopefully he gets called quickly...good luck!

I'm trying to get FH to take another examn.
We both took the NYS Trooper exam in January... I took it just so he'd go take it. But I ended up somehow getting the higher score (and I didn't even study).
I told him to apply for other cop jobs in the mean time cause it can be a looooong wait.
