I know that a lot of the men will appreciate them and enjoy smoking them. But I'm worried that then a ton of our guests will be outside smoking instead of inside at the reception. I'm afraid that this will make our video come out boring if no one is inside dancing. Even our DJ suggested holding off on the cigars to keep everyone inside. what should I do? FH really wants to do this because it's like a tradition with his family. I want to ask him to wait until at least after the cake is cut, but will that be too late? at what point in the reception is the cake usually cut? at the very end or with some time left over?

I think you should wait until the last 45 minutes to do the cigar thing. I went to a wedding that did this. Actually, they waited until the reception was over and had something outside with a hand full of people.

i agree... b/c you are right, a lot of people will be outside.

Cigars and cigar rollers are a cool touch to the wedding and a nice way to end the wedding. If I do it, I will be having them at the VH or 1/2 into the VH so my guest can have dessert and then go enjoy a nice cigar. Def do it towards the end

I agree, I think its a nice touch. Definitely do it towards the end of the night. FH and I are actually doing the cigar thing and everyone we mentioned it to thought it was a great idea

hate to provide the dissenting opinion, but I feel obliged....
I must preface this comment... most of you know I'm a scientist, but you don't know what I study... I receive my salary through a grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse...
I don't like the cigar thing at special events. It took decades to break the image of smoking being cool and chic... and FINALLY has a rep of being dangerous and unacceptable. Cigars at weddings and other classy parties is the first minor move to re-socialize smoking.
In a less global sense, some of your guests who did the near impossible, and conquered their nicotine addiction could be temped and smoke a cigar, and then return to their old habit. One hit of nicotine is enough to make some people revert.
Please think it through... maybe replace it with something else 'manly'... that isn't quite so addictive.

I agree.... Wait until the end of the Reception to have the guests run out to smoke their cigars... You are paying too much money for an event to have all the guys outside smoking cigars.

Cigars are a nice touch, I would hand them out at the end. Have them on a pedestal has they are walking out.
My cousin gave out his cigars too early and all the men were outside smoking. Of course it didn't help that the DJ ****** and It was a beautiful day in Annoppolis

i forgot to say why i'd wait...
a lot of cigars have a very strong smell. and the scent can linger on a person for a long time. some cigars smell awsome but others do not. I know that I wouldnt be able to eat if all the men at my table smelled like cigar smoke.
it's not a discriminating thing against smokers by any means... it's just that scent and taste go hand in hand. so i would wait untill after the food is served so the rest of my guests were comfortable.

we are having a cigar roller during teh cockatil hour. Since our CH is outside anyway we figured this would be the perfect time to do it.

I had the cigar roller come about an hour and a half before the wedding ended- around cake cutting time. There were people outside but many of the guests wanted to wait to smoke them.
