FH wants to move the date - Updated Page 2

Last night as I was showing FH wedding stuff, he asked if we can move the date up. We have most of our major vendors booked.

*Part of the reason we were waiting soo long was so I would have time to convert, now FH suggested an interfaith officiant.

I haven't contacted my hall to even see if this is possible yet, b/c I don't know when we would move it to. My cousin is getting married early Jan 08 in Vegas. So the latest we can move it to is October. Which is about 6months away.

Am I crazy for humoring him & his suggestion? I know people have planned entire wedddings in 6 months, but I had an issue long story short ... I don't have a dress yet But I picked CP's, decor, BM's dresses, favors, music.

What would you do if you were me at this point in planning?

Re: FH wants to move the date

if it is something you both really want, then look into it

but it seems like SO MUCH WORK - you say you have all yoru vendors booked, so what if they arent available on your date? then you would lose a deposit and then have to find someone else available for your day

technically, you would have to start from scratch. I couldnt handle the headache

good luck with whatever you do!

PS- please keep in mind that i started booking two years in advance AND some places were booked already!

Re: FH wants to move the date

Ooo man...well everyone is different. Me...I would not be able to plan a wedding in 6 months because I can't make up my freaking mind about anything. And stress makes me a crazy nut case...and he'll probably not want to marry me once he saw how nuts I would become...haha.

But you are right..there are a lot of women (and men) that have put together a wedding in 6 months or less. Do you feel that you could do that...or do you think you would be so stressed out?

My opinion is...is it worth all the stress to move the date a few months closer? Could he wait and keep the date?

I WISH i could move my date up... its the money thats holding us back.. if you both want to do it then go for it! alot of people plan a wedding in a short amount of time

As was said before, I don't think I'd be able to pull all of that planning off in 6 months, I would definately need a wedding planner! But if you really think you can do it and that's what you both want... then go for it!

But I do think you have an awesome date right now (6/7/08)... I wouldn't want to change that!

If it was me, no way! I'm way too lazy

Does he have a specific reason for wanting to bump it up?

Re: FH wants to move the date

if you feel comfortable with planning it in 6 months then i dont see a problem with moving it up. (talk to NYBride who got married in 05...she planned her wedding in 4 months!) i definately think it is doable in 6 months but i would be concerned about the vendors. if they cannot change their dates then you might lose a lot of $.

Re: FH wants to move the date

To be honest it was not my idea to have such a long engagement. I didn't understand why he proposed if he had no plans to marry me for at least two years (yes one of the first things out of his mouth after I put on the ring was 'at least two years'). I don't want to get into everything but basically this is a decision you have to make together. I resented him for awhile for not letting me have a say.

i keep telling everyone i wish my wedding was THIS may, but in reality i am the type of person who really NEEDS over a year to plan everything. i think i would freak out if we moved it up and i only had a few months to plan.

BUT if you think you can handle it, and if you think you can switch everything with all of your vendors, then GO for it!! i'm sure all of us would rather our wedding day come sooner!!

Re: FH wants to move the date

I actually had my FH ask me to move the date a year later and after discussing it for a while, I realized we should (I originally was getting married 10/20/07). I had only booked the hall as of January and went on several appointments for photographers and felt stressed just from that. And then there's the money situation, we need to save towards part of the wedding and we both don't make much money. And I'm like some of you, I need lots of time to plan. So I'm really happy he proposed that idea because now I have plenty of time to plan it and don't feel stressed like I did before.

Good luck, whichever you decide.

I moved my date back for one month from october to november to save some money!
If you dont mind having it later, I would do it. Also if you would like to convert, I would say to do so!

Does he have a specific reason for wanting to bump it up?

he's getting fustrated w/ the planning, he doesn't get why we're waiting if we have (in his eyes) everything done already....

If you were able to switch all your vendors besides the dress what do you have left?

Besides all your to-dos. Why do you still want to wait?

Programs, and actually ordering what we want for favors.

honestly & this may sound really stupid, but:

in April FH & I will be living together for 4 years, right now we're engaged for 14months, We plan on buying our in 03/08, so I would like to have a to live in as husband & wife instead of coming back from the honeymoon to our apartment

I think you should tell FH that. I think that's a very good reason.
