FH's parents

FH's parents

I usually do my best to avoid calling them anything, but I do stutter around a first name when I really need to refer to them directly. It's obviously awkward for me because it goes against my better judgement to call them by their first names, but I do try.

I won't be calling them mom and dad however. I don't think I'm very comfortable with those terms for anyone else but my own parents. lol

Before we were engaged I called them Mr. & Mrs. and they thought I was too close to them to call them that but I felt uncomfortable switching it up. Once we got engaged FH's mom insisted that I change it so I started to call them Mama D & Papa D lol which we all like. I wouldn't feel right calling anyone else mom and dad but my own parents.

I am hysterical laughing at this because this is something I do too. I always wait for him to initiate conversation but he is totally my dad. I love him he is supportive and always there for me. I feel like I want to call him dad and I think he is ok with if I call him that because we had a conversation about how would I reference FMIL who has passed and he even said she would have loved for you to call her mom so I reference her as mom if I am talking about her so I just have to get the balls to call him dad to his face hahah!

I'm so happy I'm not the only one. I seriously just talk and hope they realize I'm talking to them. I'll never call them mom or dad. We call each other's parents their names when talking about them privately/to other people.

FFIL is not in the picture and FMIL has told me to call her by her first name. I was uncomfortable doing it at first, but have gotten used to it. FH stopped calling my parents Mr. & Mrs. after we moved in with them. We'd been together about 3 years at that point.

Omg Marie, I felt the SAME way for YEARS!! I would just let her talk to me first or walk over and speak directly to her to make sure I didn't have to call her name. Lol

I was always taught to call people Mr. and Mrs., but as I got older and started working with more people who are my parents age, I started feeling more comfortable with calling adults by their first name.

Now I call FMIL by her first name all the time. Even when I'm yelling at her. Lol
