Fiancee does NOT want a dest. Wedding! I am soooo upset!

I really just have my heart set on a destination wedding and keeping it to close family friends, and my fiancee who comes from a big italian family absolutely does not want it, and his family also thinks it is a ridiculous idea. I am so heartbroken and disappointed! I want a caribbean wedding in the worst way! I feel devastated and hopeless about this. Thanks for letting me vent...any kind words are appreciated, I need some cheering up.

so sorry to hear ! its the opposite with me, but after seeing how much everything is here we decided to go woth the DW. Let him see some prices maybe that will change his mind....and if its that he thinks no one will come ....we have over 100 people coming to ours
and if that doesnt work why dont you have something with a beachy feel...you can always get married on a beach in new jersey ..i know there are a couple of places that have beachside receptions ....

It's so hard when one wants a destination wedding and the other doesn't...maybe you can do a price comparison? a DW is SOOOOO much cheaper than a wedding on LI/NYC...i have also found that even the people who protest it in the beginning, end up loving the DW because it is so special and unique.

no matter what you do, your wedding day will be beautiful and marrying the man of your dreams is really the most important thing

I was in your same situation... At first I told FH that I just wanted to go to the Bahamas just the 2 of us and elope at Sandals. He decided he wanted the whole traditional wedding here. We looked at 30 catering halls between LI and Queens and realized it would cost us about $15,000 to have our wedding, if we went cheap with everything and that probably would not include our honeymoon. He had no clue that it would cost that much! Then he approached me at dinner one night to ask if I still wanted a destination wedding. It is just soooo much more affordable for us. We will invite some of our friends and close family. Now he's as excited as I am about going away. It just took dragging him all over LI and telling him the real cost of things that helped sway him to my side. I also told him that we could have a vow renewal for our 5 or 10 year anniversary and have the big traditional celebration then, when we are doing better financially. Now our hardest decision has been which country and which resort??? Good luck, and I hope everything works out for you.
