Fibroids

Fibroids

Should I be concerned? I asked GYN to start sending me for fertility prep. I went to get a pelvic and vaginal sono and he told me I have fibroids. He said they are not big so not to worry about them now. However he said after the wedding we may need to review this again as we want to start trying right after. Is this common.

I just went to my doctor last week and he said that I have fibroids but they're not a problem as far as TTC.

Re: Fibroids

I have fibroids and when I first found out, they told me not to worry because women do have babies with fibroids. I am sure your doctor told you that fibroids grow. Well, I now have multiple fibroids and grape fruit sizes at that! When I found out I had fibroids, I wasn't even engaged so TTC was not even a thought at the time. But, since I've been married I had an ectopic pregnancy (not in the tubes) but the doctors suggested my pregnancy implanted under one of my fibroids.

Do not let my situation discourage you, everyone's body is different. I am at this point frustrated. AFter a year of trying, I am now seeing a fertility specialist and before they consider removing my fibroids, they want to make sure it is my fibroids and not another fertility issue.

Fibroids is not uncommon as it seems. I know 3 women who have/had fibroids and now have children. 1 of the women conceived without the removal of fibroids and the other 2 had a myomectomy (spel??) The location of fibroids plays a key role when TTC. I wouldn't wait too long to TTC after you are married only because of the fact that fibroids grow. Good Luck and Baby Dust!

Re: Fibroids

Potentially they could be something to worry about, so you should check with your doctor so they can be monitored.
I have fibroids that werent discovered until I found out that I was pregnant. And am now 8 months a long. This is my first baby and I have had no complications so far.
What I was told is that the fibroids can do one of two things when pregnant...
They can either grow as the baby grows, leading to a lot of pain for the mother, potential miscarrage, and most likely bed rest towards the end of the pregnancy.
OR they will shrink because of the hormones being produced. My doctors have monitored and thankfully mine have shrunk.
I have a friend who now has a 2 year old baby. She had fibroids that grew as the baby grew and she was put on bedrest in the middle of her 7th month. Everything turned out fine though in the end.
My sister had to have a D & C before she could TTC because her fibriods were too big and the dr was worried that the baby would not be able to implant...

Re: Fibroids

I have fibroids and I thought this was going to be a problem when TTC but I got preggo a month after the wedding. NO biggie!

When I first found out that I had them they told me I had 2 the size of golfballs. After getting PG the hormones make them grow so I had to be monitored monthly by sonogram to make sure they had no affect on baby and I was put on bedrest at 5 months because they were hurting me. At the last sono they found 2 more but everything was fine. They did not have any affect on baby they just hurt every now and then and they made my belly a lil bigger.
