FIL's just bailed on doing our rehearsal dinner. It was the only thing that were in charge of doing for us and all of a sudden 2 months before the wedding they are unable to do it. I feel so bad for FH. He is so disappointed in them right now, and has every right to be IMO. But now I don't know what to do. We can not afford to do it because every penny that we have is going toward the wedding. Our house is under construction now so we can't exactly do it there. This is just so upsetting. Just when everything was starting to come together this happens. It's always something. Now we probably will not be having one.
I am so angry at them right now.
Thanks for letting me vent.

I'm really sorry to hear about your FIL. Is there another family member who might be able to do it?

you dont HAVE to have one, but we are having ours at the ground round as a lunch because its all we could afford. or you could have something at someones house and just have sandwiches. It doesnt have to be a big expensive thing. God knows we cant afford it.

i agree that it doesnt have to be a big expensive thing. i would ask your parents if they could host it at the house or perhaps an aunt or uncle. you can do appetizers and drinks, the appertizers you can get a great variety at b.js or costco. another alternative is have some bake a tray of baked ziti and some meatballs and sausage again it doent have to cost you that much.
vent away, better to vent at us than at FIL's I know that what they did was wrong but don't forget we all have to bite our tongues as much as we can because they are our family now and will always be. even if we are so mad at them we could kill them! lol

can you maybe have it at your parents? or the best man or moh's house?? you can do a potluck kind of a thing have everyone bring a dish and you do the drinks and dessert. If I were in your bp and knew the situation with your inlaws and money being tight I wouldnt mind at all!!!

Thats terrible, but I agree with the other girls, there are inexpensive ways of doing it. Talk to your bridal party. Like Soon2bMZ said if I was in your bp I would do it!!!

Sorry - I agree that it doesn't have to be a big thing! We are probably going to do something low-key also. Good luck!

Not sure where you live but there are probably some restaurants that are inexpensive for lunch - how about Chinese or in Little Neck there is Giardinos, they have $6.95 lunch specials.
Good luck!

That totally sucks, especially since you were counting on it. But I second what the other girls are saying that the RD doesn't have to be formal. You can have pizza or even a bbq. Maybe FIL can't afford to throw an elaborate RD, but they may be able to at least contribute to something more casual. You should have you FH ask them what, if anything, they can afford to help with. The RD is really to show your love and appreciation of your family and friends, it doesn't have to be a big thing. Good luck with everything.

How about at the beach with a couple of buckets of chicken or a hero

Re: FIL Just Bailed on Us...venting
I'm doing my sons RD at our house. the only expense I have is that I rented a tent w/tables and chairs. I have started cooking and preparing so I won't really feel the pinch and keeping in mind, I'm a single parent doing this on one income so my budget is very tight.
I know that the RD is a very important part, but as the other ladies stated, you can do something very low keyed and it could be absoulity wonderful.
