FIL visit

FIL visit

Ok so the FILs are coming in from FL for Thanksgiving on Saturday. The families have never met. According to my mother, FH's mother is supposed to contact her about meeting. My mother is a bit of a stickler for this kind of thing, and she keeps asking me if they've mentioned meeting her.

If my FILs don't make the first move to meet my mother, she won't do it. So, I guess I'll have to host them all at my apartment.

I'm stressing over the whole thing. Did anyone else have to deal with this? Would it be weird if I just did cake and coffee and not a whole dinner thing?

I'm trying to make the meeting as short and sweet as possible because I don't think they're going to have all that much in common.

Can you give your FMIL a hint to call your mom to get things moving? I've never heard of that rule before. Life seems a lot simpler when you don't have to know stuff like that.

If your mom is a stickler for etiquette, she might have an issue with just the coffee and cake.

I don't think it would be weird to just do coffee and cake. You mean for Saturday, not Thanksgiving day right?

I dreaded when my parent's met FH's parents for the first time. Luckily they got along really well. Now we're having a mini e-party next weekend so the extended family can meet, THAT has me flipping out. I'd rather it be short and sweet like just dessert, more chance at damage control that way!

yeah - I was thinking of just doing cake and coffee at some point on Sunday.

I'll try to drop hints to FMIL on Saturday when we pick them up at the airport.

I'm just freaking out because his parents are so totally different from my mom. She's going to hate them. Our parents are the same age, but his parents are retired in FL and seem about 20 years older than my mom.

I like the short and sweet part.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed. On the bright side, if they do hate each other, they really don't have to see each other that much. They live in FL and hate coming to NY. Plus, all they keep saying is that they're getting 'too old to fly' which makes me nuts - they're in the very early 60's!
My 80 year old aunt is more active!
