FIL's are aggravating me...again

FIL's are aggravating me...again

FH and I are on the hunt for a house. We went this morning and saw a house that is now # 1 on our list. We are still going to keep looking though. So we get home and tell FIL's and they proceed to look at houses that are about 20-40 thousand $s above our price range. Then FFIL gives me this whole schpeel about how we need to put in low bids and we don't know how desperate people are to sell their houses. While he is right in some respects, I don't think most would go 40 thousand below their asking price. It's just so frustrating.

Then FMIL is trying to tell us to look at houses that are in not so great neighborhoods. ERRGGGG I know we don't have THAT much money, but we SHOULD feel safe in our neighborhood!

Aww... I am sorry you have to deal with this. It sux that everyone has to bother you and put their 2 cents in. Good luck w/ house hunting!!

dang that is messed up... its about you and him .. man you will be paying the mortgage not them!! Stick to your guns and STICK TOGETHER!! I wish you the best on your house hunting!!

If you dont own a house now you would most likley be the SELLERS dream come true. Meaning, if you bid $30K lower but can jump right on it they would most likely take your offer over the other couple that offered more money but HAS a house to sell. If you dont already own a house they dont have to wait for you to sell and close on your house. It is alot less stress for them knowing that you are readily available. My FH took less money on the sell of his first home to a couple that didnt have a home becuase we needed the money to buy the new house. We didnt have to wait for them to sell and close. SO you do have a little more bargaining pull. But it is your home and you will be paying the bills and living there so you need to be happy.

I keep in mind that we CAN negotiate; however, we also will be responsible for the mortgage and taxes. That is what is most frustrating! FH and I can bargain, but we don't want to stress each month about the mortgage

I think you guys are right on track. Keep looking and doing what you're doing. regarding your FFIL he's right, a little low balling never hurt anyone.

BUT...

Regarding your FMIL I think she is COMPLETELY wrong. You need to find the WORST house in the BEST neighborhood. That way the value of your house will be boosted by the location and the neihborhood. You'll feel safe, and can always do home improvements as money and time allow in the future.

It does sound frustrating but keep in mind some people will come down. I got my house for 30K under asking price. Good Luck house hunting!!!
