we are making our final payment tonight! for those who have gone through this process...
i have a question... do you know if tax is charged on top of service charge?
i always thought that tax is charged on the total # of people * price per person and then service charge is just extra...
please help!! thank you!!!

we're you told ahead of time how much your total would be based on your minimum?
just asking bc thats how they did it for us so i knew all along how much i would have to give at the end.
From what ive seen, RH's handle things differently so not sure what your rh does but on your contract it should show how they did it. Our bm broke it all down in the contract and told us how it works. He calculated tax and everything from the time we booked, and wrote the total on the contract

just about every RH taxes the service charge as well. the reason they can tax it--is because its not worded as a 'gratuity' but a 'service charge'
i would estimate price per person + service charge = xx amount and xx Amount times sales tax = Price per person
price per person x # of people attending= ??

yup, I was taxed on the service charge too... they squeeze every penny out of you

Call your RH, they should tell you how much it is when you give them the final count. That's what my hall did with me. I was also getting a wrong number compared to what was on my contract based on my minimum. My RH told me they do this:
# of guests x amount PP= ? + 20%gratuaity=?+ (8.625%)tax= Total Balance.

that sux.. When i was searching for DJs, they told me that in NY you cannot get taxed on a service, just goods.. So wouldn't that contradict the tax on top of service charge? I'm sure the RH does tax on top of service charge being that they want every last penny. Just curious

You need to read your contract !!!!!!!!! It has to be on there ..... check out the small lettering !!!!!!!! Good Luck
