So that's it.. last last invites went out a week ago. Just got the call from venue today that our final head count is due in! Our minimum is 100 and we have 78 including US. Maybe 82 including vendors.... so we are paying for almost 20 people who will not be there. Over $2,000 extra for nothing. We aren't getting out of paying for this. It's in our contract. I'm trying realllly hard to NOT think about all the things wedding related or even new house related that we could have really used that $2000 for. We started out inviting 120 people.. went to 150 total and as you can see only HALF are coming. I don't even know what to say...

Well I don't want people I don't know at my wedding :/ I'm sure the venue doesn't care.. they still get their money. WHo knows.. I mean if i tell them 78 people are coming.. are they really going to waste the money I give them by still buying food for 100? *sigh* Seriously... the things I could do with $2,000!!!

Oh no I am so sorry to hear that I know it totally sucks. I know most places make you pay no matter what but sometimes they will throw in some extras since u came up short on people. Hopefully they will hook you up a bit.

So sorry to hear but definitely ask like the other ladies have suggested if the can throw in some extra things. It does not hurt to ask.

I would ask them to throw something in that would equal out what you are paying for the people that won't be there. Hopefully they can do something for you. Sorry this happened it will still be an awesome day

So sorry you're going through this! I agree with the other girls.. ask the venue to give you upgrades worth the difference. For that amount you could probably have a lot of great add-ons.

I'm sorry :( As the other girls stated, hopefully they can add in those extras so it isn't money wasted. Good luck!

What about asking some neighbors or some close co workers. Im sure they wouldnt mind the late invite and will understand. And its not people you dont know. I am just under as well but not by that much and was thinking to do the same.

I definitely agree with these ladies. You don't want to pay for nothing so just really try and think of ways to fill in these spots and if not I would do what everyone else said and try to get the venue to throw something in..I'm so sorry this happened and hope it all works out in the end!

I'm so sorry you're going through this!! I thought I would have a similar situation, when my RSVP date came for my engagement party and I still had 16 empty spaces. I gave in my final number, which was my minimum, and just invited some coworkers that I liked. And, suddenly more people started to RSVP. I ended up over my final number by 4... Luckily, at the last minute, six people couldn't show up, so we ended up below by a couple, which was ideal at that point.

Yeah, go with this. There is always someone you know that probably won't mind being invited at the last minute. You'd be surprised.

I am working through this same issue now and went into full panic mode and meltdown this past weekend; RSVP date is coming up next week and I need 35 people to make my minimum. You are NOT ALONE in your distress. I started to invite some classmates that I have a good relationship with, good friends/coworkers of my mom . . you will find some extra people even though you may not make the 20 person mark. Great suggestions from the ladies on this board about contacting your venue for a little something 'extra', I might take this advice as well. HANG IN THERE!

I would see if some brides want to try your venue and would be willing to pay like $100 per couple to come to your wedding. TBH I would have totally spent $100 to go to a wedding somewhere I was considering.

Unfortunatly we pretty much exhausted our options for people we want there and people we know. Our parents have already invited who they wanted to start with so that's pretty much it. I am totally all about asking the venue for add ons but we already have some great add on's (Bably Lamb Chops to be passed uring cocktail hour & Viennesse with the extra hour) and were given a good price. Would you guys still ask for more extras? We even got a free Baked Alaska thrown in because we had booked with 3 of their vendors which qualifies for a free chocolate fountain but we already had that in our Viennese package so he gave us a Baked Alaska. Should we still ask for more? It IS $2,000 out of our pocket for nothing of course but I feel weird asking for more... I hate talking money.
