Finally Feel like a Bride
I don't know why, but I really wanted to share this here, because I'm sure most of you will understand:
So, I got engaged 2 weeks ago, and, you know how it is... it's all I've been thinking about. When to get married, where, how, the dress, the food, the flowers... it feels like my whole life is different because this is something that didn't even exist for me just two weeks ago. This is why it really bothered me that my whole family was being so normal about everything. I mean, they took me and FH out to dinner last week, but it ended up that my mom was in a bad mood and my dad was annoyed about something at work, and we hardly talked about the engagement at all. I was really upset, because I've always thought they were a little disappointed that I'm with my FH - he's of a different religion, doesn't have much money, etc. - and it's like my fears were reaffirmed by their whole nonchalant-ness about the engagement.
Well, yesterday I went to my parents' house for Rosh Hashonah dinner, and while I was in the living room watching TV, my mom called me into the kitchen. Waiting there were 6 glasses of champagne, and whole family toasted me and FH, saying they were happy for us and how great it was that we could all start the new year together. I was so surprised, I didn't even notice my mom slip out of the room for a second, but next thing I know she's coming down the stairs with a pile of presents so high she's having trouble seeing over them. Our first engagement presents! We got a waffle maker, a blender, stuff like that... it was so cool that finally, here was my family celebrating and buying us things for us to start our new life (well, new kitchen!) together. It makes it so much more real, and I finally feel like a bride-to-be! Yay!
