FINALLY things are getting done RE: my dad

Original post by Espo22

ok ive written before about the idiot parade my dad has been dealing with in the hospital. Well i briefly said last night what happened, they tried discharging him i spoke to one doctor who i told the situation to and he said 'oh its insurance problems' so i say if its insurance problems why didnt anybody tell us until now and maybe this could've gotten resolved. So my dad goes this morning at 8am to administration and guess what, THERE IS NO INSURANCE PROBLEM!!!! they said no, you're cleared for the operation all the paper work has been processed for a while now. SO my dad flips out this morning, is arguing with everybody there and gets a case worker which is what the security guard advised us to do lol yes the security guard is the only person there who told us what to do, how ridiculous is that.

So the one doctor who said from Monday that he arranged for lennox hill hospital to come get him, goes today in the room and for some reason has an obsession with my dad getting the hemorrhoids surgery and said thats what he scheduled him for. The doctor who performs hemorrhoids surgery there came to tell the cardiac doctor-NOOOOOO i will not perform this surgery on him, his chances are very low and he can die, even the anesthesiologist came in and said there is no way they would do that when someone has a heart problem bc the anesthesia can kill him. I dont understand what obsession this doctor had with my dad getting this. I mean the man has 2 blocked arteries and his concern is my dads hemorrhoids like seriously not a big F*IN deal at the moment.

FINALLY another doctor came in and said they will take care of everything when he heard everything that has been happening and he called lennox hill today and said they will come get him on sunday. Now bc of what we went through, it was hard to really believe what we're being told so i didnt trust anything they said. I just pictured sunday coming around and NOTHING happening and needed answers. I called lennox hill hospital myself, call admitting office and told them the situation and if i can find out if my dad is really on a list bc i dont trust the doctors. Well the guy told me that YES somebody called TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so for 4 days they kept telling my dad oh yeah lennox hill is comign today and nobody even called. I told my dad, mom and fh last night that i will bet that nobody called lennox hill and i F*IN knew it. But now i just feel so much better bc lennox hill told me my dad is pre-admitted for 2/3/08. At least now we can just stop stressing and knowing it will finally happen

Thank you to all you girls who have been so thoughtful during this whole situation and for all your kind words, i truly appreciate it

So glad the situation has finally been resolved...now some of the stress can be taken off your family...especially your father! You def should write a nice long letter telling what stupidity is going on at that hospital!

Oh wow, i'm totally just catching up here. First I'm so happy he'll def. be moved and get the care he needs. And I'm also glad that LH said he had pre-approval for sunday. And although it's severely frustrating and maddening, it doesn't surprise me in the least....***** but it's the truth. It happens all the time and it's just ludicrous. I hope for the most part though he's keeping his chin up. Don't you or him ever be afraid to make a stink or raise hell. It's extremely important that patients and their families be their own advocates. Sometimes your voice is the only one that will get heard.

Also, if you haven't already, try and get the names of everyone you spoke to and when and who said what to add to your letter. Send it to the administration and the members of the board.

Yeah my dad caused a scene today and had so many doctors in his room, case worker, nurses bc of the scene he caused but it finally got results. Its sad but sometimes its the only way to get things done. If you dont like the answer a person gives you then always go find another person and i learned that long ago. When i was like 14 i went overseas to visit family, stayed a lil bit longer than originally planned but unfortunately my passport expired while i was there and we didn't realize. Well when we went to the embassy to fix this they told us it would take 3 months and to just wait ...lawyers over here told my dad the same thing. So he went to places here, and got the papers they needed that they said would take 3 months, and he got it in one day. He went and the lady said to give the name and they'll call him when they get it. He said NO made the lady get up from her desk who was eating lunch and listening a walkman and told her to go now and get the papers and hes not leaving until they do...well yeah he got it that day and in 3 days not 3 months i was back home.

Thats why it surprised me that my dad took this for 4 days and caused a scene today...hes the type to raise H*ll and get things done that i dont even think is possible. But i think he was just so down at first.

I think that sometimes people have issues doing it with medical professionals when they wouldn't think twice raising hell otherwise. Which I totally get. I mean, we're not doctors so in the back of your head you think, well what do I know, they're the doctor. But like you said, you always have the right to question, and demand answers and results, even from doctors. And I'm glad you guys did.

Its true...i think the problem is they kept telling him 'oh theyre coming sorry its just taking some time' so he just thought at first ok they called and theyre just waiting a bed so thats understandable. But i think after yesterday when they tried discharging him and then one doctor said 'oh its bc of your insurance' which now i obviously realized that doctor just guessed that, he probably figured 'oh if they didnt come yet it has to be insurance'. When we saw this going on yesterday it was like Ok this is not normal and things aren't getting done. Even my mom said last night lets go right now to administration and settle this and was yelling and pissed off, and shes the quiet relaxed laid back type. They were closed at that time so my dad went first thing when they opened up this morning.

I hope people who read this and maybe encounter anything like this in the future do speak up and demand answers and demand for them to take action.

I wish you dad all the best!!! He'll be fine.. sometimes its just that people don't want to work or go the extra inch to help people out.. nothing you can do except deal with it at that point..

make sure you write a letter..
