Financial Help- Investing in banks outside of NY

I need some advice. I would like to put some money in a 6 month CD since the interest rates went up again. Newsday always has that section with the best interest rates in the US. Has anyone used a bank that was not in NY to do an investment like this? Was your experience with that bank a good one? How does this work? I can't remember the name of the bank, but it was in MA and they were offering 5.25 for a 6 month CD. I have the info at home. Please let me know if you have done this. Thanks!

I just got FM from LIWeddings and they said investing outside of NY works out great. So I guess I'll give it a shot. If anyone wants to know the bank and rates, FM me. I'll be able to provide the info when I get home.

a lot of us are big fans of ingdirect.com. It's not a cd, but a savings account. They offer 4% (4.75% for any $$ deposited before April 15th).

I have a link where they will give you $25 for opening an account with $250 or more. The great thing about ING is that you don't have to lock your money away for any amount of time, like you have to with a cd... you have access to it when you need it. You can really save a LOT of money with their interest rate. I've been a member for about 3 years and LOVE seeing the interest go up! FM me if you want more info. - I can send you the link you need to get the $25.

Good luck saving!

They also have a 4.75% 6 month Cd at Ing.

We just invested some money in 3 month cd's a little closer to home. We have one at Commerce for 3.25% and one at Astoria Federal for 4.25% (I did the Commerce one because there was no way I was driving to find an Astoria Federal from where we live but, FH was willing to). We figure that we can reinvest after three months and hopefully get a little more income (pending the same rates apply).
