Finding it expensive, trying to decide whether ot get married here or in Vegas.

Hi Everybody,

I'm sorta down tonight. My FH and I want to get married the second weekend in May. We have been tryhing to decide whether to get married here, or whether to fly to Vegas.
FH would like me to have my family around me, and they have already told me except for 4 family members they won't be able to do make the flight out. We then figured we'd have a dinner party when we came back, when we were hopefully in a new apartment and had things more settled. I know he would rather, though he hasn't said so, get married here with our family and friends around. However, the practicalities of that don't fit with what he wants. We have a very small budget-$3000 for everything. While that would get us a nice ceremony and dinner in Vegas, it doesnt' seem to go very far here. And it's not giving me the wedding I would want to have here. We would like to get married somewhere spiritual as opposed to religious-we'd rather have more than a JOP civil wedding, though.
It hit me today, when I was looking at prices places were quoting me. I am just feeling overwhelmed by it all.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Deb

Why don't you get married in your or a family members backyard and then have a small tented reception, or go to a restaurant for the reception?

I was having the same issues. HF and I were overwhelmed by the cost of everything. We decided to set a budget of $7000. I know it's more than your budget, but I was able to get everything we wanted for my budget. It was really hard, but we are having our wedding in FH's church, and having a reception with 130 people. I'm sure it would be a lot easier if you were to do it with a lot less people. The church only cost like $350, the reception, we rented a beautiful hall in a senior citizens complex, and I am getting a buffet diner catered from a local Pizza place. I don't know where you are located, but FM me an we can talk some more. it might help to get rid of some of your worries. HTH
