We will begin TTC this fall and were having a conversation last night about it. I found out that he definately WANTS to find out the sex of the baby (and he didn't seem flexible) and I would rather be surprised for the first baby (I love the anticipation of it all).
He feels it will be so much easier (and I do agree) to be able to get the right colors and so on. He told me he will find out but I don't have to. I said -well when you paint the nursery pink I will figure it out - He said he would just prime it and paint it when the baby is born.
Did anyone else go through this (or will go through this)? I know if he knows I will bother him to death until he tells me (I love surprises but I'm not very good at them ) but I really don't think I want to know.

Re: Finding out baby's sex????
I'm not there yet, but when the time does come I definitely want to find out the sex of my baby and so does DH. The only reason I want to know is because the suspense will kill me.

Re: Finding out baby's sex????
Ahhhh Betty - you sound like my husband and I LOL. I didn't want to find out and he did. But he was so adamant about finding out that we did. When you are in that room only the strong stick to their guns - I caved. Also, sometimes the baby doesn't cooperate so you can't find out. I told the tech to tell us only if she was sure.
Friends have not found out and they said that while the surprise of it is great its also really nice being able to plan. Even though I'm having a girl I find that a lot of things have to be gender neutral b/c I want more children but I've enjoyed picking out a lot of girl stuff.
Its definitely a tough decision. Ultimately what hubby and I agreed on was that we would find out for the first child and not for the second. Although I'm weak and for the second I'll most likely cave

Re: Finding out baby's sex????
we discussed this also...DH couldn't wait and wants to find out what we have when the time comes....I kind of wanted a surprise for the first one.....but want to know at the same time
LOL...he said 'C'mon..I can't wait to give you a surprise, what makes you think I can wait to find out what we would have'

Scott wanted to find out...I didn't. I won! I told him that we both had to deal with not knowing. I don't think 'one person knowing, one not knowing' works at all JMO. hey, I am the patient anyway so if I say No to finding out, then they have to respect that anyway. So you get to 'win' just because you are the pregnant one

Re: Finding out baby's sex????
Was just talking about this with a friend. My brother and his wife just had a 5 month sonogram last week and found out they were having a little boy. She wanted to know, he didn't. DH and I have discussed. He would want to know, I don't (not that we're even TTC)
I worked for a ballet company and one of the dancers was pregnant in the winter. The Times did a story on her and her husband. He was quoted as saying (when asked if they knew if it was a boy or a girl) There are so few genuinely wonderful surprises in life, why would we spoil it?
I think that is soooooo true!! Think about it...how many times are you supposed to be surprised, but someone ruins it--my shower is a good example that comes to mind. I just think it's a really nice thing to wait. JMO

DH and I both wanted to find out. We figured its still a surprise to find out what you're having, you just get the surprise at 5 months instead of 9 months

That is true but I remember how we all felt when my SIL was in labor and we didn't know what they were having...we were all so exciting guessing.... I will miss that:(
But I do admit, things would be easier:)

We are going to find out, but I know my BIL and SIL were in the same boat as you. He wanted to know, she didn't. SOOO...he found out and she didn't!!! I don't know how they did it. If I was him, I would've slipped a thousand times and if I was her, I'd be begging him to tell me!!

We we have a baby I know my DH wants to find out and I do not! I think it is the biggest surprise God can give you! BUT>>>hey you never know while I am getting a sonogram the curiosity may take over and I may give in!

Re: Finding out baby's sex????
we are not finding out for 2 reasons:
1) I think it makes the whole pregnancy more exciting to keep guessing and have everyone guessing what you're having 2) We are not painting the nursery pink or blue and we are not putting the baby in lots of pinks or blues so it would not make it easier for us.
I know people say well it's a surprise when you find out at your sono but I think it's a much nicer surprise when you find out after delivery.

Re: Finding out baby's sex????
I am 38 1/2 weeks pregnant, we don't know the sex, and I wouldn't have it any other way! It has been so much fun hearing peoples guesses and wondering ourselves, and now through all the pain of labor, there is a wonderful surprise at the end! The room is green, and the clothes are yellow and beige, but who cares! We are looking forward to shopping for gender specific stuff when the time comes!
