Finding The One (the dress, not the man!)
How did you know your dress was it? How many did you try on before finding it?The 8th dress I tried on (ironically enough, my lucky number) I felt my heart beating like I was in grammar school and had just seen my crush, lol. Even my father, who was there with me and my mom, said 'this is it!'. This was Monday. The lady mentioned there would be a sale on the weekend so we decided to come back Friday (tomorrow.) However, my mom seems to think we need to keep searching! There are thousands of gorgeous dresses out there. I am sure I could find another I like but I don't feel the need to keep looking. I asked around and answers vary. My future SIL only tried on 3 before finding her dress whereas one of my bridesmaids who married last year found hers after trying on almost 30!
I'm curious to read others answers. Thanks!

Finding The One (the dress, not the man!) - Long Island Weddings
I tried on 5 dresses before I found the one! I knew it was my dress. It was everything I was looking for & I felt so beautiful in it.. there was no need to shop anymore. I actually ordered my dress this past weekend & will not look at any other wedding dresses anymore.. Btw- go with what you fell in love with! I fell in love with ivory & went home and second guessed myself for a few days because I though it was white... It also depends on your skin complexion..

Lol about 50 dresses over the course of 7 stores. I know this isn't what you want to hear, but there were two other dresses that I thought were 'the one' before I put on the one where I was like 'OMG NO, THIS IS IT!!!'

I am pretty fair skinned (Irish/German) so maybe ivory wouldn't be so bad. Thanks, I know I should trust my gut! My mom's love for all things wedding planning is adorable and I appreciate her help of course but she's gotta accept the search is over, lol.

Haha you're right, that is not what I wanted to hear! But, I was that way with the venue hunting. I thought two places would be 'it' before finding the one we booked.

Finding The One (the dress, not the man!) - Long Island Weddings
I had seen a dress online and had to wait for a loaner sample to come in. I tried on other dresses in the meantime and liked 2 but I was not fully convinced that either was 'the one'. When the loaner dress came in and I put it on, I did not want to take it off, it just felt so right!

Finding The One (the dress, not the man!) - Long Island Weddings
I tried on an absolutely ridiculous amount of dresses. I couldnt even begin to put a number on it, but if I had to I can say with a good certainty that it was well over 75. I also got engaged in 2009 and had shopped periodically over the years. I came close a couple times. Even cried over one in Macys. Then I found mine. The world seriously stopped. I didnt want to look anymore. I just knew I was done. I tried on 1 more after that and it just didnt compare. My dress actually ended up being 100% what I said I didnt want lol

I haven't found my dress yet and I've been to 4 stores, I got 2 more appointments this weekend. If you felt your heart beating like you knew this was it, I wouldn't continue looking. You got that feeling for a reason!

Wow! Over 75! Same here. I thought I wanted a poofy number or something with straps and I ended up loving something not as poofy and strapless. Go figure!

Finding The One (the dress, not the man!) - Long Island Weddings
I probably tried on about 20 before I found my dress. I had found two dresses before that I had liked a lot but didn't get the feeling for, and when I went to my appointment where I bought my dress I was thinking I was going to have to settle and wouldn't find anything better. When I put my dress on I really liked and felt like it was everything I was looking for but still had dresses in the room. I started to put on the next dress and the consultant wasn't even halfway through lacing me in and I told her to take it off because I wanted to put mine back on.I would stop looking and buy the dress you found. Of course you could keep looking, and you may find another dress you like better, but you could also just make yourself more confused about what you want.

Finding The One (the dress, not the man!) - Long Island Weddings
Over a dozen different dresses but I tried out 3 dresses almost each of my visit to 4 different bridal salons. I actually went by myself first and then just found myself gravitating towards trying on 2 dresses then I got it to THE ONE. The last time I tried on the dress, I was having so much fun swishing around on it. I got it hooked up with a veil and then the day I chose it as the one, the specialist added a belt to it for bling...i didn't want a belt but when she put it on, I was sold to it. I have a picture of me in the dress on my computer and I look at it at least once a week and smile at its awesomeness. As a side note, 2 days before I purchased the dress, my mom said she liked either one of the last 2 dresses I was contemplating. Then after I put a $1000 nonrefundable deposit and the dress was ordered, she decided to tell me that that she did not like it one week later, 2 weeks later and then a month later...at her last attempt, she told me of a superstition that it was bad luck to try on the dress....I looked at her like she went insane. I have not spoken to her since to keep the peace and I still know that this is my dress. So in short - when you know it is the one, you will KNOW. As for me, I kept trying on dresses and kept going back to my favorites until one of them felt like 'home.'

Great advice, thanks! I think it would just make me more confused and probably become a less enjoyable experience. I will go with my gut on this one!
