I did! I bought the boxes at Michaels (they sell round, oval and square ones in a white paper covered cardboard; it's very stiff). Then painted it with acrylic paint (3 coats). Cut the card slot with an exacto knife, and then glued gunned the ribbon on, finishing it off with shells. Super easy. I started it back in September, and then it sat painted with nothing on it until Friday night when I finally did the rest. All tolled, it probably cost $30 to make.

i was in michael's last weekend looking for hat boxes and they told me they don't carry them. which one did you go to?

I bought these at the Michaels in Lake Grove, but I have seen them at every store I've gone to. I don't think they call them hat boxes per se, though. At the one in Lake Grove, they were all the way in the back of the store against the back wall. Just look for boxes that can be embellished. I'm sure they'll have them.
I've also seen them at the one in Huntington Station (and at the ones near my apartment in Virginia, but that doesn't exactly help...). I was in the M in Huntington last weekend after T-giving and they had the square ones.
