has anybody ever stayed there? is it really bad? i've only been to the pool and seen the outside but i'm curious what the rooms are like.

Ocean Bay Park? My opinion? Total dump!
We used to do a summer outing at work to Flynn's for lunch, spend the morning on the beach and get rooms there so everyone could change, use the pool, etc. One time DH & I (who met at work) spent a few days there before the outing ... tiny, kinda gross rooms (once the shower was in a converted closet - fun to watch my 6'5', 250+ man in there). One time we were given a room that hadn't been cleaned at all.
Just overall, and for the price, kinda

yup. It's nice to wake up and be at the beach, but the prices are outrageous for what little you get. I'm pretty sure our room didn't have A/C and had bugs.

I will say this was a few years ago ... but I'd be surprised if it's changed since they seem to have no problem getting people to pay $ the way it was.

Re: Fire Island Hotel
yeah they said no A/C but 'oceanview'. i have heard some rooms have no windows so i'm skeptical about that. it has bugs though?! then absolutely not. i'm so bummed - i miss it out there. anybody have any other recommendations? seashore condo in OBP & the palms in OB are booked...

Yeah, not so good, especially for what they charge...our a/c was on the fritz, no tv, and bugs in the room....and if it's rainy out, you DO NOT want to be stuck in that room all day. ETA: there's apparently a new hotel in Ocean Beach (two towns over from OBP) called the Palms and it's supposed to be nice. Forget that, I jsut read your above post.. SOrry.

Re: Fire Island Hotel
Definitely no AC, but we did have a window and a fan that looked like the ones on a PI's desk in an old movie!!

LOL we stayed at Tequila Jack's in Robbin's Rest (the Oceanview hotel) in June and that is what they had. it's bad enough there's no AC but the first fan ever invented? come on!
ETA: we were there for 5 days and it rained the ENTIRE time so i definitely dont want a repeat and be stuck in a disgusting room again.
