firing the flowergirl?

Original post by LIprincess

So I orignially thought it would be cute to have my niece who will be 13 months at the wedding to be the flower girl (Despite everyone telling me its not a good idea).. well now she is always cranky and I do not want her anymore. Only problem, I told her parents I wanted her in it a few months back... So would it be mean to say 'As much as I would love to have her in the wedding, I dont think it will be a good idea since she is tempermental and I dont think having in the church will be a good idea?' TIA

in 6 months she will be a totally different child.

I think you are being completely unrealistic.

I wouldn't come out and tell your sister that your niece might be too cranky to be in the wedding, I think it would prob hurt your sister's feelings. Definitely play it by ear. Babies change a lot, and you still have a long while to go before the wedding day.

Honestly, i really dont think you should fire your FG. She is your niece and why cause problems with your sister bc of this. I believe that once you ask somebody then you have to stick with it, and ESPECIALLY if its a kid. Honestly, sometimes we become so involved in OUR wedding, we freak out and worry about things that seriously don't matter. Ive been to weddings where YES the kid didnt do exactly as they were supposed to, and guess what-it was perfectly fine. Nobody expects a kid to come out and do a perfect job, thats the cute thing about kids ...the best moments are when the kids do something funny, even if they run down, trust me that everybody will laugh and find it adorable. She is 18 months old, no matter what she does, people will love it. If anybody looks at a child that young and says 'OMG they didnt walk out perfectly' then theyre the ones with the issues, so let it be.

I am sure your sis is so excited to have her daughter as your fg, trust me bc our fg's family is so excited & they cant wait. I wouldn't take that away. An 18 month old child should not even be a concern to you.

i dont think you can take it back - but i understand how you feel - we do not want any kids at our ceremony for similair reasons and that includes our godson who will be 2. we were really nervous to tell our FH's sister and BIL (who are the matron of honor and best man) that their son was not invited to the wedding including the ceremony - we didn want to hurt their feelings but at the same time we just didnt think it would be appropriate to have him there....luckily we found out from FMIL that FBIL and FSIL don't want to bring him and are coming up with ideas for a babysitters which was a huge relief....

Personally, I would never 'fire' my niece from being the FG in my wedding! My wedding day will be the happiest day of my life, and I want the most important people in my life to be a direct part of it.... cranky or not. I think you should just give her some time... who knows, she may be a perfect little angel on your wedding day.

I think using those exact words you're really going to offend your sister. I would ASK your sister if you think her daughter will be ok since she as MOH won't be available to help her down the aisle and if your sis thinks she can handle it. let your sister give her honest opinion and go from there...but to say its coz she's tempermental...that word could cause drama

I think you should stick it out. My daughter was 15 months old for my brother in law and sister in law's wedding last year and it worked out fine. She was cranky and crying outside the church (because she had not had a nap) but when the doors opened and we went in she stopped when she saw everyone looking at her and she did great. It was a great memory.

Here is a pic of her walking (she is holding a marker because someone gave her that while outside to hold so she would calm down and she would not give it back, lol)...

Thank you! You know what? I love this picture and I am so glad that she was the flower girl. I was worried about how she would behave but it all worked out fine. I think that most wedding worries are like that. You focus on small things and worry about it and in the end it works out fine and it is a great day.

You should not stress about the flower girl. It is your little niece and she will do great. If worse comes to worse and she is cranky and a pain in the butt her mother will be there to take care of her. It is not like you will have to, ya know?

My daughter just turned one and she is a completely different child than she was 6 months ago. She is going to grow SO MUCH. Don't assume that she's going to be bad or unruly.

I would just keep your mouth closed for a while and not stress over it. Don't upset yourself & don't upset your sister. Just wait & see what happens.

I think if you say it like that, that the child is too tempermental - the backlash of that would be way worse than anything the child would do on your wedding day.

If my sister said that about my kid, not that i have one right now, but anyway, i would flipppp outtt.
