First Class Flight

First Class Flight

Good morning everyone.

FH and I are considering our honeymoon, and we're wondering if it's worth it to fly first class. Neither of us have flown first class before, and we're flying from Vegas to Hawaii (a fairly long ride) for our Honeymoon. We're wondering if it's worth it to splurge the extra money to fly first class. What do you guys think?

I have never flown first class but I think its worth it! You should just relax your whole vacation. Fly coach home because you are going to be sad your honeymoon is over.

FH and I got bumped up to 1st class 2 years ago flying to St. Thomas. It was great....the seats are much bigger, the give you drinks before the flight takes off, plus any food they give you is on a real plate...well with AA and more. It was definately great! But depending on how much more it is and it you can afford it, is how I would make my decision. I looked into it as I wanted to be in 1st class for our HM but it won't be in our budget.

If you can, I'd say go for...it's def an experience!!!

We were thinking about upgrading but it was much more expensive. When we checked in at the airport, we were ableto upgrade for like $250pp. That was worth it! By the way, we went to Hawaii too!!!

FH & I were going to upgrade to 1st class using amex points but when we called to have them transferred they wanted an absurd amount of $$ so we said forget it.

2 things...1 is you can ask your travel agent to mark this as HM b/c from what I have heard you often receiev special things without asking...namely 1 class seating and 2, I recently learned that a benefit to 1st class is that you get the wireless connection to charge laptop...dvd player, etc. for such a long flight, that might make a difference...HTH

I've flown first class, and it is nice. Seats are wider and more leg room. Food is better, drinks are complimentary, more personal attention.
YOU GET PILLOWS AND BLANKETS !

Depending upon how much the difference in price is, I'd say go for it. Can be substantial so check it out.

I wouldn't use it for short flights, but Vegas to Hawaii seems like a good distance.

We are going to Jackson Hole, WY for our HM. We decided to fly first class. A honeymoon is a once-in-a-lifetime trip and we think that we are worth it.

What airline are you flying?

First class is definitely worth the extra money!

What airline are you flying?

We'll probably just fly Jet Blue from JFK to Vegas, and then we'll fly Hawaiian from Vegas to Hawaii.

Hmm, I have no clue about what first class is on Hawaiian, but I have to agree with all the other girls: if the cost isn’t crazy, go for it!

do you know how much extra it is? I want to do that now lol. we're going from cali-hawaii. I think it's worth it. when my flight was messed up a few years ago they bumped me, and my friend up to business class. that was just business class, it was already much better than coach the seats were so comfortable.

We were going to do first class, but the price doubled. We decided we would just forget first class and go on another trip next year

Re: First Class Flight

It really does depend on the airline. FH and I have both travelled internationally for work in busienss or first class, and it does make a huge difference on long flights. The problem is that on some airlines, the next class up really isn't that much of an improvement (but they still charge and arm and a leg). This is particularly true for U.S. airlines (like United, AA, UsAir, etc, though United just annouced that they are upgrading their first and business classes significantly). FH says Brittish Airways, Quantas and JAL are the best he has ever used.

There are a couple of websites that talk about this stuff, and say which airlines are better. This one is good: link

Other than that, I def think that using miles or points to upgrade it the way to go. Or mention it is your honeymoon when you check in. If they have open seats, the check in agent may just upgrade you. This happened to my parents when they went to Italy for their 30th.

Re: First Class Flight

We flew from NY to Chicago and from Chicago to Honolulu in Coach (that leg of the trip was 9 hours). If you can swing first class. Go first class. DH and I are tall people and were miserable.

If you cannot manage that, try to book seats in the second of the two middle emergency rows. There is more leg room and they will not seat children there. The first emergency row does not recline but the second does. SOME airlines will not let you book those rows before 24 hours of your flight. So you can sit by your computer the day before and rebook your seats online.

I was thinking the same thing. I really think that we all deserve first class for the HM. JMO

Re: First Class Flight

I checked it out - it looks like it will be more than double to upgrade. I also think we are worth it (lol), the question is does our bank account think we're worth it? Here's hoping to a big tax return this year!!!!!
