First Dance - what did you/will you do?

First Dance - what did you/will you do?

At the few wedidngs I've been to recently, the bride and groom only dance to like 1 minute (not even) of their first dance song before the DJ tells the other guests to join in. OR he just cuts the song short.
FH and I really want to share our first dance together...just him and I. We really dont want our guests invited onto the dance floor and we want to dance to the ENTIRE song. Its not that we dont want our guests to enjoy it, its just that its our first dance together as husband and wife...and we want it to be just us in that moment.
What did you or are you going to do?? Will you invite guests onto the floor during your first dance? Or will you request to dance alone?

YOu tell the DJ or band what you want - you are paying for it

I have the same little pet peeve about the wedding songs too - there are TWO songs that I want the ENTIRE song played for just the two of us -

1. Our first dance song
2. The father/daughter dance song

I hate when they cut it short - but some people may not like that attention on them for that long. However, I feel the same as you - I want that moment for myself and to enjoy the WHOLE song - not part of it!

We danced to our entire song. We took dance lessons so we had the whole thing all mapped out. It was amazing!

We danced the entire song alone-we had taken dance lessons and wanted to share that moment alone-the band asked guests to join us on the dance floor for a 2nd song...I was so glad we did this

My DJ specifically asked how we wanted it done. FH and I don't like the spot light so much...so we will dance 1/2 the song alone, then request the bridal party up.

It's your wedding - if you want to dance the entire song with your new husband, do it! It's 3 minutes, everyone else can wait. Besides, first dances are always so romantic, I'm sure no one will mind watching you guys in the spotlight.

I am one of those people who will request that the DJ invite others on the floor halfway through. FH and I can't dance and don't particuarly enjoy it. We will do our bounce and sway for a minute and then invite our bridal party and then our guests to join us. I think it is GREAT when a couple dances for the full song... I just won't be doing it!

As to the father/daughter song... my dad has passed away. I will dance with my dad's best friend (who is like a second father to me) - halfway through I am having the DJ invite all children and parents to the floor. Most of my friends will be there with their parents or children. I think it will be a nice way to celebrate the bond between children and their parents... even though my Dad and Mom can't be there.

Do as you and your FH wish -- it is all about you two!!!
Tell the DJ what you want and go for it!!

We danced the whole dance. We had choreographed our waltz to 'At Last' by Etta James. It was SO wonderful. It was our moment, our dance and it was just how I wanted it to be.

I would like our first dance to be just us because I want it to be something that's just for me and FH. There will be four more hours for everyone else to dance, but I just want that one moment with him.
