first day of work - skirt or pants?

I'd be much more comfortable in pants...but my mother always told me to wear a skirt...

If you're more comfortable in pants, wear them. It's hard enough being the new kid on the block without feeling uncomfortable in your clothes.

Good luck! When do you start??

They always told me skirt on first day and interviews, but my profession is more strict clothing wise then yours.

As i sit at my desk with jeans and a fleece on!

I'm more of a skirt girl, so I'd go with a skirt. But you should wear whatever your most comfortable in. So I voted pants.

Wow, you're finally starting Monday - exciting! Good Luck on your first day!

I have voted for pants! I think the skirts as being 'THE' attire is no longer valid. Just make sure that pants are nice and dressy with lining/creases, not khakis

You will be nervous enough so definitely wear what you are comfortable in. I vote for pants.

Good luck yabbobay!!! I am also starting a new job on Tuesday and I was wondering the same thing. I think I'm going with a pants suit.

Skirt - knee length (below looks school marm'ish) is good. See what the other women wear. If there are a good many with pants then you're good for pants. If more skirts (I mean like 90% more skirts) I'd go out and buy some more skirts. Just until you get into the swing of things there and get comfortable with the job and people. Good luck!!

I think I am doing the pants suit as well...Its a school (admin offices) so it should be laid back...when I went on my interviews it was pretty casual (some capris, etc - although my bosses were in suits)

I wore a business type skirt suit my first day of work at my current job and I felt totally uncomfortable the whole day. NO ONE in the office got that dressed up! So from then on, I wore more casual clothes.

Once you get an idea of the atmosphere of the place, you'll be able to better judge what you should/shouldn't wear

Good luck!!

I'd say wear the pants. It's uncomfortable enough to start a new job, you at least want to be comfortable with what you are wearing.

Good luck on your first day!
