First Florist Appt.

First Florist Appt.

So today was my first florist appointment. I'll be honest, I am clueless when it comes to flowers. I've seen people posting about specific types of flowers they want in their boquets and I don't even know that much... My BMs dresses will be fuchsia. As far as my boquet, I'd like to keep it white but with something different in addition to white roses.

When we were there I felt like we had to ask all the questions and the woman basically sat there, showed us a few binders with photos... showed us some live flowers (that looked like they were dying.. it was awful). I asked if she had a list of flowers with their names and a photo next to the name... but she didn't have that.

I don't know... I guess I'll look through magazines and cut out pictures. If anyone comes across some photos that might look good with fuchsia, can you please post them?

Thanks.

PS: Don't worry, the florist is not a vendor on here. It was a small local place. Figured we'd start there and then work our way up.

Make your life easy and go to Burtons!!! They charge per bok- NOT per flower... you will save a ton!

Definitely pick up some magazines and look thru them. See what flowes you like and which ones are totally out. If you see something in a color and you like it but want to know if it is possible to get it in white then take it with you and ask.

I found alot of Boks that I liked so i would put stickies on them with questions or what I liked about them, etc.

Get together some ideas and bring them with you. If you do a search in google for pink/white flowers you should be able to see what they look like also.

There are plenty of flowers that come in white:
stephanotis
roses~also pink
calla lilies
peonies~also pink
daisies~gerberas can be pink
lily of the valley
orchids

(these are the only ones I can think of)

Go through magazines and cut out pics or print out bouquets from this site. This will give the florist a general idea of what you'd like.

I went with a small flower shop called The Little Shop of Flowers because the florist was so enthusiatic and creative.

Good Luck!!!

Try going to the book store and picking up some flower magazines.

Also go to yahoo or google and go under images and type in weding bouquets.

I also found theknot.com to be very helpful.

Oh sorry 1 other thinges, the brides magazines has pictures as well and so does the Martha Stewart wedding website has stuff.

Hope this helps.....

I had the same experience at one of the big places.

Try Judy at Main Street Florist in Center Moriches. It's best to walk in with some pictures though, no matter where you're going.

You should definately look in magazine and get an idea of the style and colors you like. You should also find out what blooms when you are getting married. I had my heart set on cherry blossoms and then was told that it was impossible to get them during September. You need to have a style in mind (modern, garden, tall, short etc.) that will give you a good start.

Try Jen at Verbena Designs. She will take the time to show you different flowers and come up with something you love. She also included a pic of each type of flower on my contract so im sure she can help you. She also had a ton of flowers that just came in and was able to walk us through and show us different types of flowers when we didnt know what they looked like. The best part was she made us a sample centerpiece before we signed a contract. Her prices were also very good, she will work with budgets.

Check out Flower Barn. They are in Seaford. I was not sure what I wanted and Micahael was a huge help.

go to Pedestals and ask for Nadia - she will know what you are looking for better than you can describe yourself. She is high energy, great ideas and really knows what looks great together
