Re: first freakin dance
Depends on what you want. You have a year. That's plenty of time to get a routine down and practice it without counting it out on the dance floor. There are tons of great dance studios. It just depends on what will make you feel more comfortable.

it depends. I saw a choreographed first dance and they were counting but it was endearing, then this last wedding they took dance lessons also and nailed it!
I say go for it!

Re: first freakin dance
if both of you arent comfortable with dancing and dont want to take lessons then i suggest not even worrying about it and do the whole arms around eachother and slowly going back and forth or something simple...If both of you are in the moment during the dance and being loving nobody will pay attention to you dance but instead focusing on the love you two have for eachother.

i would LOVE to take lessons... and i figure this is the only time i could probably get FH to try it.. so i'm hoping we can fit it into our budget... i think it would be nice to do something other than sway back and forth....not that i mind swaying.. cause i don't ... i just really wanna learn a dance..lmaoo

I think it depends on what you guys want to do!
I brought up dancing lessons with fh, and he veto'd immediately. He said that he took them the first time, and he didn't want to again.
So, if you two want to take lessons, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it!
P.S. I think that the girl could have figured out a way to count without actually having to open her mouth.... lol.

FH wouldn't do dance lessons - EVER...
We were originally doing a movie themed wedding - so as our own private nod to movies - we're going to duplicate the first dance Jim & Band Camp have in American Wedding - it's Into the Mystic - it's VERY short & cute... My MOH figured out all the moves & she's going to teach us...i HOPE it's not too too hard!

We were debating, but finally did it... I found John from Ballroom Dance LI. He's amazing and is flexible. Plus, he teaches you a routine w/ NO counting or anything. Just dance moves.
DH and I were talking on the dance floor and I asked him the next step so he's say... 'this is the grapevine' and I knew the steps already for that. John is great b/c he teaches you new steps each time so you get it down right.
Haven't seen the video of our dance yet, but I can't wait. I know we're not the best dancers, but it was still sooo much fun

FH and I are taking dancing lessons, we LOVE it. It's a lot of fun and a great way to help you both feel more comfortable on the dance floor.

after getting him into 'Dancing with the Stars', I think I finally got FH to go for dancing lessons I would rather try to dance correctly than tock back and forth.

Re: first freakin dance
We took lessions (bday present to me even before we were engaged) and it really does help. Now we don't just do the 'clutch and sway' which is the high school slow dance, we're a little more coordinated. The foxy is a nice modified slow dance that you can kind of make your own but looks a little more pulled together. We used Bovard - Eilecia- she's a vendor on here & is very sweet & patient.

Re: first freakin dance
my fh told me thats the only thing he wants-lessons-because he doesnt want to look stupid stepping on my toes....i was like oh we'll take like 3 or 4 lessons!
NO! he looked at me and said, 'seriously we are taking at least 10.' this is the only thing he is really self-conscious about.
