So, I get home tonight and my mom tells me that my cousin called. They were talking and shes says to my mom that she and her sister (cousin #2) are disappointed that I didn't send an invite to cousin #2's ex-husband. My cousin remained on friendly terms with her ex but she has since been dating someone else. So, I mailed an invite to her and guest but not to the ex. and now they are upset with me.
I am feeling so many emotions right now - I'm feeling bad because I don't want to offend anyone but I'm also a little annoyed that they would react like this. They know we're paying for a wedding on our own and should understand if my list needs to be limited to close family and friends.
What do you think about this? Was I wrong to not send the invite?

Re: First Invitation Drama
Perhaps if cousin #2 feels so strongly, she should bring her ex-husband as her guest. I don't think that you did anything wrong.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't! I would never have invited her ex- that would just be so strange. This is definatley not your issue.

Absolutely. It's not a backyard barbecue where the guests can bring whomever they want. GRRRRR... it's the bride and groom's decision

Re: First Invitation Drama
What nerve she has to be upset at you. Its her ex- husband, it's not usual an ex of someone close to you gets invited to a wedding. She should have asked you politely, not get upset with you because you didn't invite him. I would just explain the situation. Remember this is your day and its suppose to be celebrate with YOUR friends and family, not hers.

I agree! I would honestly never think to invite a family member's ex-anything.

Re: First Invitation Drama
You did nothing wrong and people need to grow up. I am tired of peoples reactions to invitations. It seems that people just want to complain about something. Give me a break. You never want to insult someone, but you are not related to him any more, and it not like an ex sister in law or ex uncle. It is your cousin's ex.
ok, done going off

Re: First Invitation Drama
Thanks girls ... in my heart I know I didn't do anything wrong but it helps me to feel better to hear from all of you.
As an added note, they are mad at my mom too becuase my moms reaction was 'we just assumed she would bring so and so' and they were like, its not right to assume. But, after all, aren't they wrong for assuming I would invite him? I think my mom was just trying to avoid conflict with her answer but I made it clear to my family members that anything related to the wedding should come to me and FH, not my parents!

Helllllllooooooo? I'm sorry but I think your cousin was WAY out of line. you left the option open and if she doesn't invite him, well then that his her problem.
