OMG, I LOOOOOVE BRU!!! When my sister was PG last summer, I volunteered to pick up everyone's gifts - me and my DH were there about 10 times in August!!! He won't let me go in there until we register in April because I have no self-control!!

That's a good question, how far along should you be before you register??

There's no rule. We decided that we'd register at about 28 weeks (early April). Then again, we weren't going to buy our nursery until March, but we ordered it Friday!!! No self-control, I tell ya! I'm staying out of baby-related stores for the next 2 months!!

I love that store. Every time I need a baby gift I head there first and then wander around the store mentally picking out things for myself when it's my time

Re: First Time in 'Babies R Us'

Ooooh I can't wait to go there!! I've been holding off until March, since we have no room now for anything and we should be moving in April. I guess when I register I'll be completing 6 months, or about 25 weeks. I'm not sure when my shower will be, but hopefully it will give enough time for people. I'm due in June, so it will prob. be in April or May.

I have been surfing their website a lot to get ideas. I'm still so confused about car seats and cribs, and travel systems. There are so many choices!!!

Nina, I am SOOO confused too! we need the veteran Moms to give us the thumbs up on Car Seats, Strollers, Bath Tubs, Back Pack or Diaper Bag, Bassinet and Crib?? Help any suggestions!

I would not invest in a bassinet - I think they are too small, and the baby outgrows it so fast. I think that a portacrib is a better option, since you can get months of use out of it. But, it depends on your personal situation.

You are so funny about the shopping thing...I have taken to sending DH into BRU for formula and diapers - I cannot go in there w/o buying Paul a new outfit, and he already has SO MUCH clothes.

When I do go in, I try to be good and only shop from the clearance racks! LOL!

I agree with the Bassinet. I didnt have one because I thought it would be a waste of $. $ I could use for other things for Emma. I love BRU. Since the nearest store is 30 minutes away Im an addict on BRU.online.

So where did you have the baby when you came home from the hospital? was she in your room and if so what did you have her in?

Emma slept in bed with me. I was breastfeeding and had a c-section so moving wasnt that easy. Emma took naps in the pack-n-play bassinet or her crib.

Re: First Time in 'Babies R Us'

When Paul was brand new, he did spend a few nights sleeping on Mommy's chest...I found that was the only way that I could get him to sleep for longer stretches of time (allowing me to get more rest). However, for naps, he slept in the Pack-n-Play bassinet (I had the one with the full size bassinet attachment) in the middle of the living room. At night, he slept in his portacrib which was right next to my side of the bed.

Just a useful tip = I don't remember where I read this, but....when babies are newborn, they cannot distinguish day and night. To help them learn the difference, it is a good idea to have them nap during the day in the 'busy' part of the house, like the den or living room. (This is where the Pack-n-Play bassinet or carseat/infant carrier become useful!) And, don't close the blinds or curtains...letting the light in is good! This teaches the baby to adjust to sleeping even when there is noise or sunlight in the house. It is not good to teach an infant that they need silence or complete darkness in order to nap!!
At night, you should let them sleep in their cribs, and it's okay to have the room mostly dark (with exception of a night light, if you wish). This helps them learn the difference between day and night! It takes awhile, but they catch on fast...and soon, the baby is sleeping through the night!

Edited to add the pic of full-sized Pack-n-Play bassinet:

This also comes with a changing pad, which is useful for travel to a friend or family's house.

LOL Claud - 'Brand New'. All I can imagine is having a 'new baby' smell.
