First time wedding dress shopping - need opinions!

In about a month, when I hit the 1-yr away mark for our wedding, I am planning to go dress shopping for the very first time!

I'm a very budget conscious bride so I've decided to begin my gown search looking at off-the-rack sales, sample sales, trunk shows. The weekend I am planning to first go shopping there is a trunk show at a bridal shop near by. I'm not over the top on the designer, but staying open in general so that's not a make or break for me.

Does anyone know of any other trunk shows the weekend of 3/21??

I've toyed with the idea of starting at this trunk show, or david's bridal, or NY bridal outlet in farmingdale. I can't decide what would be the smartest to do! Anyone have an opinion or ideas on where to go FIRST?

First time wedding dress shopping - need opinions!

Personally, I didn't like David's Bridal. I wasn't crazy about their 'sale rack' or their 'sales'. I wasn't happy with the customer service. But that's just me. I went to a shop in Floral Park and they drove me crazy. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. I went to Estelle's and it was ok. A few friends of mine say Bridal Reflections is really great. I never made it over there but they have great reviews. I started by just going to bridal salons to see and try on dresses. I also started shopping about a year before my wedding date. Since it was January and I'm getting married in April it was easy to 'X' out dresses. At first I wasn't really sure what style of dress I wanted, that's why I did that. It really helped me narrow down my choices and work on a realistic budget. Once I knew the styles/designers I liked I went in search of the trunk shows/sales. I ended up finding my amazing wedding gown at Demetrios in Manhasset. Not only were they the best to work with but they were able to work with me when I fell in love with a dress that was way out of my budget. I had fallen in love with. I just had my first fitting and when I saw it (after months and months) I was so overjoyed. I don't regret stepping out of my budget. I've just readjusted all my other budgets lol. They tend to have several trunk shows a year. I got my dress last Easter and almost exactly one year before my wedding day. I hope this helps. With Easter being early this year they may a trunk show soon. You can call them to ask about their trunk show schedule. I worked with Alyssa, she's a doll. Hope this helps. Happy Shopping.

First time wedding dress shopping - need opinions!

Well, I went to over 10 stores on long island and I am super picky and indecisive with really all clothes haha so the wedding dress was no different. I would say the first time you go shopping just try on everything to figure out what style you want. And I would say the best place to do that is a dress store where someone will help you but not pressure you and also where you can go through the racks yourself. So places I found that were good for that...Village Bridal in Babylon, Bridal Suite of Bay Shore, Bridal Suite of Centereach, and Helens in Commack, also Fantasia in Rocky Point was good. Once you know what style you want it's a lot easier, especially at places that don't let you go through the racks like Bridal Reflections in Massapequa. I would also guess that off the rack sales and sample sales etc would be easier once you had a definite style that you wanted too, but can't hurt to go and try on anything you think you might like if you wanted to start there.

Good luck!!!

If you're willing to trek into the city, I highly recommend RK Bridal. I had a budget of under $700 and found a great dress there. I had the added stress of being a plus size bride. They also have a good size sale rack and lots to chose from.

They also have a few trunk shows coming up: http://www.rkbridal.com/news/

Before you start with trunk shows and sample sales, I would make some appointments at regular stores with a large variety (such as bridal reflections) just to see what you like. Other wise, if you go to a trunk show or sample sale you'll have to make a decision right away. So first figure out what you like then shop for the sales.

When I think of a trunk show, I think of old raggedy clothes that nobody wants..Like those clearance bins in front of express that a million filthy hands were on. Toss..toss..toss..nothing good lol
