Re: First year of Marriage
Everyone I've spoken to has said that the first year of marriage is the toughest of them all.
I can't say that life with DH has been perfect, but I would say we get thru the ups and downs together and it makes us a stronger couple b/c of it.

Re: First year of Marriage
Sorry to hear that. I am having a great first year of marriage but I'm only at the 6 month mark so far... Our only rough patches are that we are definitely doing more things with family than we would like as newlyweds - would like to have more alone time together but DH's dad died the week of our wedding so his mom is having a hard time with it so we try to see her as much as we can....most Saturday nights we do dinner with her which can get hard because sometimes I just want to do dinner with DH but I understand she is lonely so I realize I am being a brat and a baby and I shut up and go. Everything else is great though - love being married!

Re: First year of Marriage
well the first few months were definitely interesting but things havent gotten a lot better and easier...i think it is only natural to have some rough times in the beginning especially if you two are living together for the first time

I'm one of the ones who told you that!!
I'd say we're right along there with Betsy and her DH, we have our troubles but get through them together and our marriage benefits from it. As long as the good times out-number the bad, then I think you're doing ok.

THANKS!!! Sometimes I feel like such a biatch for even thinking I'd rather be just doing something alone with DH but I just think of how alone she must feel...so it's nice to hear that it's nice of me! Thank you! DH also has 2 brothers so we all try to take turns being with her on the weekends so she is not so alone - it's hard enough for her during the week while we're all at work and stuff. It's not easy though I have to say...love the woman but it's hard to feel you always have to do something with her.

Re: First year of Marriage
Our first year has been pretty good, but it did test us. My DH's job, my DH's cancer scare, buying a condo, affording a condo, paying bills, friends. But for us, its all worth it. We were together for 7 years when we got married so it wasn't too much of a change.

Re: First year of Marriage
oh man the first 4 or 5 months were a HUGE adjustment. We did not live together prior to getting married and that took some work. Even then though, I was just so thrilled to be married and its getting even better!!!

Re: First year of Marriage
Our courtship and engagement was actually more stressful than our first year of marriage. But the stress was not with each other, it had been in regard to my Dad's failing health and his passing. The year that followed, was a year of relief and time for US. I am blessed.

Re: First year of Marriage
this first year of marraige (well, almost a year) has been pretty great! we have had some hard times but we dealt with them together and are doing great. october marks our 7th year together, so we feel like we've been married much longer than we actually have. it has been an evenful year for us as we moved to Charlotte, started new jobs, i started grad school, my DH decided to go back to school (finally!!), and other fun stuff.

Re: First year of Marriage
The first year thus far has definitely been a challenge. It has been full of ups and downs. But we have also been through a lot- especially with buying a house and financial concerns that go along with it. It is all about balance and communication. We both have to get used to the way we do things.

Re: First year of Marriage
honestly, the first year of marriage was not difficult...we lived together prior to being married, we have been together 7 years at this point, our home was bought prior to our wedding...things are great... the hardest part was moving around and leaving my job to go with DH for his job- it was not easy, but being with Dh made it all the better!

Re: First year of Marriage
our first year was actually great... we have had a lot of things go on - living together for the first time, moving out of our apt and into my parents house, buying a house, doing renovations on the house... but so far we have been very happy!! We are just beginning our second year, can't wait to move out of my parents house and be on our own again! Its been almost 6 months now!

So sorry to hear about that. COunseling has helped many couples. There are so many couples going to counseling, but many don't speak of it on here. There's already been a divorce of '06ers. I think the hardest part is if you were living by yourself beforehand. Our first year living together was tough.
Our first year of marriage s*cked donkey balls. We had many downs in the first few months. But we were able to lean on each other. If you can't lean on your partner, then I believe counseling helps tremendously. I wish you the best of luck!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: First year of Marriage
Our toughest was the year we got engaged and moved in together. It gradually got better, but now it's the best it's EVER been. We are now on the same page and communicating much better together. Sometimes it just takes time to adjust. Hang in there; I PROMISE it will get better.
