Our engagement was actually more stressful than our first year of marriage.
We are really enjoying being newleyweds, actually.

The only major adjustment has been how DH lives in our apartment.....he just agreed to make some major changes though so hopefully that wil do the trick!

Re: First year of Marriage
Overall - our first year has been good - MUCH better than the time that we were engaged (wedding planning was really stressful with family stuff).
We are still working through one main area that we were working on before the marriage. But we'll definitely get through that, as we have gotten through other things before.
I hope things get better for you. So long as you are both committed to counselling and to each other - then counselling should help.

Re: First year of Marriage
Overall our first year has been great. I had bad home sickness for the first month or so then it was just a big change and a lot to get used to.
I would say the first 6 months were the hardest, now it is actually Wonderful.
we have a great time being married!

I don't know if the fact that in addition to our one year annivesary we will be celebrating our 10 years of 'being together', but we've had a wonderful, marital-blissful year. We're enjoying each other to the fullest before our son arrives in September.

Re: First year of Marriage
We are having a great 1st year. We only get closer every day. We had more stress with the planning of the wedding and that went away thank god. There have been some hard times with my Dad being sick, but my DH was there to support me and help me. We are in the process of trying to buy a house now so that is some stress, but we can't wait to have our own house. I really don't have any complaints about being married, actually we are loving it.
To the brides that are having up's & down's I send you some and . Stick it out and hopefully it will turn around.

Us too-Sunday is our one year, but we are together for 10 years already. There was really no adjustment for us. We are having a great first year. No baby yet, but will start working on it soon.

Re: First year of Marriage
After 14 years together (yes, we got married in our 13th year together-figured it would be a lucky number) and after 7 years of living together our first year was no different than all the other years...
The only thing that changed was calling my finance Husband and him calling me his wife.....
Overall it has been great

You're not alone. DH & I moved in together @ 5 weeks before the wedding, and then took a month long HM, so really we didn't start 'living' together until we had been married for a month!!! Add to that the fact that we live with HIS family, and well, let's say that life is interesting. We just started looking for our own place to buy, and I think then we are in for some big adjustments b/c his 'mommy' won't be there to just do things for him.

Re: First year of Marriage
It's been both easy and difficult. (You all know my situation by now anyway.) And we were already living together for almost 2 years by the time we got married.
Our year was busy for the first 8 months with other weddings. So they went by in a blur. But after all was said and done we were back with each other. And we don't always agree on everything. So it has been hard.
We might go back to counseling. He wants to work everything out and I do too, but there's still a lot of things that have to be discussed before moving forward.

Re: First year of Marriage
I have been very lucky. My DH and I have been together for over 12 years and we have lived together for some of it. I think we have worked together even BETTER since getting married. We are more like partners because this is for life. We have gone through a lot due to my mom's health issues and my DH's work issues, but we support each other and enjoy life together. I am very blessed.
To the ladies who are having struggles, I have big hugs for you.

Everyone I've spoken to has said that the first year of marriage is the toughest of them all.
I can't say that life with DH has been perfect, but I would say we get thru the ups and downs together and it makes us a stronger couple b/c of it.
I'm one of the ones who told you that!!
I'd say we're right along there with Betsy and her DH, we have our troubles but get through them together and our marriage benefits from it. As long as the good times out-number the bad, then I think you're doing ok.
Ditto ...the tough patches just made us stronger and helped us see why were together!

Re: First year of Marriage
This has been both very difficult and wonderful at the same time - we have been together over 3 years, and the time flew by, but honestly, the time before we got married was fun and carefree. When we got engaged - a yr before we married, things started getting tough - Angelo was laid off from 2 jobs, and by the time of our wedding was unemployed, so that was very, very difficult - we didnt enter married life footloose and fancy free... then, as everyone knows, I got knocked up right after the wedding, which has turned out to be the most wonderfukl and stressful of all - and although DH was lucky to find a good job, we struggle more and more with financial problems which puts a huge strain on everything. This, and the fact that I am pretty much alone 90% of the time because of DH's job hasn't been easy. In some ways I feel like a single mom, but if I didn't have Cailen, I don't know what I'd do. He is my sun and moon. He is my everything!!!

Re: First year of Marriage
For the most part Its been wonderful, our only issue we are having a very hard time with and its stressing both me and DH is our financial problems. It ***** because I work my butt off and the pay stinks. I looked at other places for a second job and the one I have now conflicts with the sceduling. And to top it off, the other places either pay the same or less.

year one was great! it wasnt too hard of an adjustment living together and i think we get closer and closer everyday. aside from DH's dad getting sick aroung Thanksgiving, everything has been perfect!
