fishbowl vases as centerpieces

If anyone had fishbowl vases as your centerpiece at your reception please let me know how they looked and if you have pics, all the better. Thanks.

Did the water get discolored or look crappy after awhile? There is a florist that was recommended to me that I am not going with because when I went in there, I saw centerpieces like that yet the water was a little bit murky. The flowers didn't look all that fresh either so I thought 'oh these are from a wedding last night'. Nope. They were for that night. Ick. Maybe I am being too picky. But I wasn't too impressed. However, maybe the water gets like that anyway no matter? I know florists start early in the day but I don't want my water to be icky by 8pm for my reception. I almost want to tell the florist I choose if they can fill them up at the hall. I think if we go with fishbowls, I will get those marbles at Michael's in the colors we are using for the wedding (navy, lavendar/lilac) and have them put in the bottom of the bowls to give it some 'oomph'. I change my mind daily from footbowl/pedestal to fishbowl....maybe if I see some I'll know what I'll like. Thank you!

Re: fishbowl vases as centerpieces

I'm not sure if you're talking about what I had, but at my wedding I had long cylinder type vases for the high centerpieces. Inside the vase was water and some floating flowers (I think orchids). It looked great, and I don't think the water went brown or anything. I liked it because it looked different from a lot of the other high centerpieces I'd seen.

Re: fishbowl vases as centerpieces

My Cousin had fish vases last year for her wedding. They turned out great! (I would post a pic, but don't know how, if someone can tell me how to do it I would be more than happy to.)
We did fill them up ourselves though around noon or so for a 7pm reception. They were still all clear, and most important the fish were all still alive

FH and I still have 4 of them here after a year. If you use bottled water it will stay clear for days. It makes a great centerpiece. Good Luck.

Re: fishbowl vases as centerpieces

if you search i remember this topic has been brough up before...

you have to worry about the fish dying.. which is really unattractive.....

however you could do the vase with 1 beta fish in it and the green plant that comes out the top..... its in that thread if you search for it

Re: fishbowl vases as centerpieces

I think if the flowers are cleanly cut they shouldn't murk the water. It may also depend on the flower used. Some flowers hold dirt in their petals or leaves that may wash off into the water. A good quick rinse should solve that.

Just my thoughts.

Re: fishbowl vases as centerpieces

I am having them at my wedding.

I took it home with me and the water didn't turn murky for a few days so I think it will be all right.
I have some vines wrapped around the inside to hide the stems
