Has anyone got any magic advice or formula to determine if a sofa will fit through a door? I'm looking at a sectional and the tricky part is as you enter the room, there is a partial wall that comes out in front of the door, about 32' away.
I'm at a loss as to how to figure out if it will fit through or not. I've measured the width, height, etc. and there is no easy way - it's come down to will the sofa make the turn.
Any suggestions?

cross your fingers and hope for the best - JK Good luck though
Actually if you bring the measurements to the store they should be able to tell you if it will fit. Also, there are companies that dismantle sofas for this reason

When we ordered our sofa we were sure it was not going to fit through the door and told this to the salesperson. When it was delivered the arms were off of it so it did fit and they put it back together in our apt.

Nothing every fits thru my front door - but I can take the window apart and get furniture thru there. Thats how I got my big fluffy couch and leather chairs in.

I've got the name of a furniture mover who specializes in taking apart and reassembling sofas if you need it. It's not cheap - I think he charges $125, but it's better than sitting on a couch outside!

We bought new living room firniture a few months back & we live in an apt. so we have great knowledge on this topic, trust me!
When you go furniture shopping take measuements and take the legs of the couch into account...make sure they can come off! Measure the couch but remember the legs!
There are couches with high back that will not fit sometimes...Also they have couches, that come apart in parts (Levitz has this) and the delivery guys can put it back together at delivery.

Berkline sofas (Levitz carries them) have removeable backs so they will fit through tight spaces.

Really! When did they do it for you?
Well $200 is the disassembly and $70 for the move. Did they move it for you from one house to another.

Re: Fitting sofa through door?
Thanks everyone. I spoke to them at the store and they will have someone come out tomorrow, though now I think we'll be OK.
We measured our sofa in the living room, then decided to try it, since it's just a little smaller than the new sofa.
We had room to spare - not a lot, but probably an inch or two in wiggle room, and we were not even trying to do anything fancy, just tipped it to the narrow side and angled it into the room.
Yay! Here's the fabric - plaid for the sofa and throw pillows in the yellow and the floral. Not sure if they show up, but the yellow has a yellow swirl and flower with little tufts.
