flatware - sterling or stainless

ok all this registering business has me wondering...

are you guys registering for sterling or stainless flatware - or both? I dont know how I feel about this (registering), its really hard for me to accept gifts.

ETA - I already have the casual flatware that matches my Fiestaware, but it would NOT match my fine china.

stainless! Sterling is a PITA to upkeep and how often will you use it really?

I don't think I'm going to register for sterling flatware. It's sooo expensive and I feel bad asking people for it. I think I'm just going to get a nice set of stainless steel.

ok good. cause when i saw the prices for sterling (i had no idea what the cost was) i felt sick.

Sterling it is. i do have my grandmas silver and I plan on trying to resurrect it someday.

mostly everything they sell in the stores now in Stainless Steel

make sure you get 18/10- it's the best Stainless Steel you can get

18/8 or less is better for everyday flatware

Stainless is the way we're going too. I know myself & I wouldn't keep up w/ the sterling.

Thanks for the tip Beth!

There is no way in H-E- Double Hockey Sticks that I would EVER clean sterling silver for the amount of people I have in my family right now much less after I am married. I registered for formal stainless flatware and everyday stainless flatware. I have a service for 16 for my formal stuff and my family is bigger than that right now. If I had FH's family with mine at the same time, we go well over that to which I say NO THANK YOU!!! DISHWASHER SAFE ROCKS!

(not as much as the '06ers though)

I picked a good quality stainless for my formal by Nambe.
Its considered good quality b/c its hot forged from one pc of stainless, instead of two put together.
here's a pic

Good stainless is beautiful. I see so few people actually using real sterling nowadays. My sister had my family sterling, she uses it twice a year at Christmas and Thanksgiving, and as if thre's not enough to do during this time, she has to polish the whole set!

Go stainless!!!
