Florist and Color Scheme

I am getting married in 4 1/2 months, how soon should I start looking for flowers? Any recommendations on Florist would also be appreciated, (near Massapequa Park or the South Shore of Long Island - since the reception is on Exit 45 of the S State).

Second, as some of you already know from the previous posting, I want to honor my deceased mother by having pink roses (her favorite rose) in the bouquets. The question I have is that my bridesmaid's dresses are aqua color and I am not sure what color combination I could use with pink roses that would complement the aqua color.

Any suggestions ladies?

Florist and Color Scheme

I just finished a wedding where the dresses were pale aqua, the flower colors were, three shades of pale pink, shades of peach, and lavender accents. It was such a happy combination of colors. The flowers were gerberas, roses and delphinium with ming fern. Hope this helps!

June

You should go pick out your flowers very soon. Although they are located in Smithtown, James Cress is an excellent florist. You meet with a coordinator and they will help you pick a color scheme. There are so many flowers that the average person has no idea about. They have great ideas. I am using them for my wedding. Good Luck!

We'll be having around 150 - 200 guests, 2/3 of the guests will be from out of town. I'd like to look in the Nassau/Queens area. My fiance's family is from Queens but I'd like to be a little more in the suburbs. I really don't want to spend more than $75.00 per person for dinner but will go higher if the place & food is worth it.

Here are a few more specifics on what I am looking for in a reception site: - Catholic Church and Hotel nearby (within 5 minutes) - scenic atmosphere (country club like) - would prefer buffet (stations) style dinner and would also like (if possible) to be able to bring in a Philippino caterer to serve a few traditional dishes (my fiance is Philippino) - large dance floor ( would like to hire a D.J.)

Hi. I live in North Massapequa and I am using Flowers By Edwards. They are on North Broadway in North Mass. A few blocks north of the Southern State (Exit 30). Living in the area for years they are awesome. I met with Lori the owner and she really helped. It is a small shop but they do great work. Their # is 516-420-9180. Where is your reception????

It's important to remember that there is a LOT of hype out there, and people are being told all kinds of misinformation that they believe. As far as I know, I've been doing this style longer than any other studio that I know of on Long Island (10+ years), and I have a pretty good sense of what works and what doesn't and what is genuine and what is an add-on. By all means, do your research (if you take this subject seriously) and don't believe anyone (including myself.) If you see a difference in the issues that I've addressed, than you'll know how to proceed. If you don't see a difference, than of course it makes sense to save your money and believe what they tell you (ONLY if it doesn't make a difference!)

I am getting married at Timberpoint CC on Sept 10, 2000.

The ceremony is going to take place their also (weather permitting) it will be held in the outdoor patio.

I wanted to go for a simple but elegant flower arrangement, such as hand-tied bouquets for the bridesmaid. I would like to have a cascading bouquet with lots of ivy. That's all I know for now.

Marisol,

I was married at Timber Point on Sept. 18, 1999 and used their house florist, M&F. The owner, Maggie, is wonderful. She asks you to bring in pictures of yours and the girls dresses and suggests styles/colors. She was also flexible with her package that you're eligible for since you're getting married at Timber Point. My girls wore sky blue dresses and carried hand-tied pink roses with greens.

Hope this helps- Kathy

Hi Kathy,

I actually did meet with Maggie when I attended a bridal show at Timberpoint CC. For some reason I was a bit skeptical about her, but I will give her a call and meet with her in light of your experience.

Thanks. Marisol

She does seem to be a bit out there, but she does beautiful work. From what she told me and my mom she stays at the shop until 2 or 3 in the morning designing the wedding flowers so they are totally fresh.

Another girl I know got married the night before me at Timber Point and used Maggie as well. She was very happy with her too. Check her out, but you need to feel comfortable with whoever you choose! Good luck! Timber Point is a wonderful place to get married. My guests are still raving about it!

Hi Marisol. I am getting married at Timber Point to in October 2000. I didnt really care for anything the house florist offered. I was skeptical too. I am only using her for the centerpieces (because they are included). I opted to go for my own florist for the church flowers, bouquets and bout and coursages. What church are you getting married in. It sounds like you live close to me (I am in North Massapequa) Like I said before I went to Flowers By Edwards. Lori the owner showed me pictures of what flowers are in bloom in October and we came up with beautiful boquets. The price was amazing. If you want to know what I am getting email me privately either above or at [email protected] and I will give you the specifics.

I USED WEST SAYVILLE FLORIST THEY WERE GREAT GIVE THEM A TRY ,YOU SHOULD FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH WHO YOU USE.

I had the same problem...do you have any friend who is a Mary Kay representative? I had a friend suggest this to me and it seemed like a good idea...

I really like the water view at PJCC also. Amazing. I wasnt to crazy about their inside cocktail hour room, and if the weather is bad and it ends up inside, I wont be too thrilled. BUT they were most within my price range.
