I went to a florist today, a popular one on LIW and she made up the contract and gave me the quote, but said I wasn't allowed to have the copy of the contract. I wanted to go home and show FI, but she said they keep it and if we put a deposit THEN we get the contract.
What gives???

Re: Florist not giving you contract?
The same thing happened w/me at Pedestals in Howard Beach w/Phyllis.
I didn't go back.
ETA: Was it a contract or a quote sheet? Every florist I went to (except the one above) gave me a contract w/the quotes, and made a copy for me to take home.

That's about right. She could have given you a quote but the actual contract would only be issued when a deposit is given. Sorry!!!

Re: Florist not giving you contract?
a florist I went to did the same thing, but what I do now is write down prices as we talk, same goes for any vendor! that way, I have an idea what to tell FH when I get home!

Re: Florist not giving you contract?
It looked like a contract. It said bride - what I want - price
Groom, GM, what I want -- prices
Centerpieces -- what I want -- prices
Then a total. Like what the HELL am I going to do with the quote sheet, make my own flowers from what I TOLD her I WANTED???
She pissed me off anyway, I was supposed to meet with the guy that I wanted and he went home sick.

Huh. Now that I think of it, I just have a quote sheet, I didn't sign anything with my florist.

Re: Florist not giving you contract?
I guess the best thing you can do for now is visit other florists w/the same information and compare their final price to see which you'd go with.
Sorry to hear you went through that.
Good Luck.

She told me the same thing but gave the estimate anyway. She asked me for money on the spot. NOT

She gave me the 'estimate' as well - but didn't do any of the numberwork in front of me...actually took the paper to another room, calculated and came back.
SHADY!!!!!

Re: Florist not giving you contract?
Most go to the back to do the #'s. But the sheet I wanted was the flowers I asked for and the prices next to it.
I just don't get the philosophy and I was pissed that I had to meet with a different person than who I scheduled with. She seemed like she had no interest in flowers.

I went to one that did the same thing and that is fine. But to say NO we don't give out the quote sheets is shady. IMO

Re: Florist not giving you contract?
don't go back. there are tons more florists out there.
btw...a very popular vendor on here left the room when she figured out prices. for what i wanted, the price she quoted was outrageous. i never looked back.

Re: Florist not giving you contract?
I only went to one florist, and that was Signature, and he did everything right in front of us. Pricing and the whole nine yards, and gave me the contract right then and there, although I booked George on the spot!!!
He didn't go into another room to do quotes or anything. If someone did that to me, that would kind of make me uneasy as well!!!

Re: Florist not giving you contract?
Burtons did almost the same thing to me. He just 'jotted' down prices on a 'yellow stickie' no formal contract, nothing. Needless to say we didn't book with them.

Re: Florist not giving you contract?
I didn't get contracts with any florists I met with, just quick 'proposals'. In fact, the florist I booked didn't even have me sign anything. It's probably b/c they know you as a bride will change your mind about 20 zillion times before the day of the wedding and they want to be able to adjust the price accordingly and not be bound to any prices in a 'contract'.

Re: Florist not giving you contract?
Every florist (except for Pedestals) I went to gave me a quote sheet basically it was an itemize price list for each item I want
for example: 18 cenmterpieces= $price 8 pew bows= $price
