Florist question

Florist question

Has anyone used a 'Local' florist as opposed to a 'wedding' florist? If so, what was your experience and how did it work out for you?

Re: Florist question

My friend booked a local florist from town, and she had a great experience with them. The flowers were beautiful, everything was on time, and she got a great price from them. I went to look at them when I got engaged, but they moved their business, and I don't know where they went.

I was going to use a 'local' florist... but think of the quality of roses or other flowers you get from your local florist. If it's like mine - and they die the next day - I wouldn't go with them. I also heard that there was a bride whose 'local florist' flowers were dying upon arrival to her house on her wedding day! I do NOT want that! A lot of typical florists freeze their flowers - and by the time we get them, they're 2 weeks old! In fact, a girl at the florist I WAS going to use told me that my black magic roses will only last 6 hours!

I have heard that the flowers from the 'wedding florist' I am now using (Flower Michele) last for almost two weeks - including the Black Magic roses! He told me that the flowers he uses arrive at his shop within 48 hours of being cut, so I'm confident they'll be in the BEST shape and health and last a loooooong time! And from what I've heard... that's exactly what I can expect! I have NO worries about my new florist!

By the way... I got the same quote from Flower Michele as I did from the 'local' florist, so you might not be saving that much, if anything!

Thanks for the info! I wasn't sure if a local florist's flowers would have more longevity because they have more of a turnover then a 'wedding' florist.

Re: Florist question

I spoke with two local florists before I booked my wedding.

I can't speak for the quality or longevity of the flowers, but they didn't have a big selection. The second persoin I spoke with was not very specific about what the arrangements would consist of. Being a bit of a control freak, this did not work for me.

The other local florist I spoke to was incredibly rude and didn't seem interested in doing wedding flowers.

I am using Stop and Shop. The price is unbeleiveable.
OUr CPs are potted orchids, so they will definitely last.
As for BoKs, as long as they last through my day, that's all I need.
But now that I read this, I will be sure to have her order my flowers specially, as close to the date as possible.

I didn't book them for my wedding, but I LOVE Stop and Shop flowers!!! I tell my FH that I only want my flowers from them because they spray their roses with glue and sprinkle GLITTER on them! They look SO special and BEAUTIFUL! I brought them in for a girl celebrating her b-day at work, and everyone ooh'd an ahh'd! They were shocked when I said they got them from Stop and Shop! And you know what... they lasted LONGER than the flowers my FH paid 75 bucks for at a florist near my job!!!! Go, Stop and Shop!

Re: Florist question

My sister used a 'local' florist on her wedding day and her flowers were gorgeous!!! Unfortunately, when I went to book the same florist they were under new management and their prices had skyrocketed. I think if you find the right one, you'll be okay.

I am not sure if there is a big difference in price. I am using I someone I found on the knot who quoted me $2000 LESS than everyone else (and I met with 7 florists). FM me if you would like the his info!

I used my local florist in town and had no problems. I loved working with the owner, she was very helpful and the flowers were beautiful. My reception hall provided the centerpieces, I only used my local florist for the bouquets and boutinerres. We carried all roses, they lasted a long time!
