Florist Vent, Need Advice...UPDATE

Okay so some of you may have read my past emails about my florist and the finalization of my flowers. Quick recap; I called last week to make an appt. to finalize my flowers. They basically told me they don't do finalizations in person and someone would call me the Monday of my wedding week. So I wasn't very happy about this considering my boutonnieres and flowers for the lobby of the RH were still TBD. So I sent her this packet going over some things I wanted to talk about including my bouquets which I have no idea the sizes of the bouquets and I wanted to switch my all white bouquet to purple and the girls purple bouquets to white/green. I don't want to change the flowers, just allocate the flowers in a different way. So my florist got my packet today and called and basically told me it was too late to make such a big change because the flowers were already ordered. How the heck could my flowers be ordered without finalizing things with me. She said that basically the flowers that she wrote down in the contract is what she ordered. I told her how the boutonieres were not determined yet and she said that doesn't matter because it is only 10 flowers but she can't change the bouquets because that is too much and my flowers are arriving in the store on Monday. I understand what she is saying but I don't understand how they can order all my flowers without going through everything with me. Would you be upet? What would you do?

I think you are damned if you do and damned if you dont on this one.
If you call and tell them they are wrong...who knows what you will wind up with and if you dont they will think its all ok.

I dont understand how they ordered your flowers without going over it with you-yes my flowers were ordered but I was called to make sure that I didnt want to change anything and anything I wanted to change I was told I had to do then and there b/c they were being ordered.

Im sorry I dont have better advice for you

in your defense, you have a right to demand that your money get spent the way you want it to. you requested a final meeting and they denied it - their call and they messed up. you now have the right to say that's not what i wanted, i asked you to discuss this with me and you told me no. yes, the original colors were in the contract, but things can be modified. stick to your guns, hope it works out!

My floral contract said that no changes could be made three weeks prior to the event. When I paid the final balance in person about 4 weeks prior to the wedding, I changed my Bok and then her told me that if I wanted to change anything, let him know right then.

Well, I checked my contract it said nothing about changes having to be made 3 weeks prior. So I'm safe right there. I just do not understand how they could order my flowers without consulting me first. For our centerpieces, it says that we need between 16-18. I am dying to know how many they ordered considering they never asked my final table count. It is just really bad business what they did. FH wants to go to another florist, but obviously it is a little too late for that. Has anyone ever heard of florists shipping flowers overnight because that is what they may need to do for me.

I am really sorry you are going through this stress right now. I am pretty sure they would be able to overnight flowers if that is what you needed. Maybe you should just go down there unannounced and speak to someone in person.

I agree- it is much easier to tell someone 'no' over the phone- I agree, If I were you I would demand they do as you ask- as you said, you are not changing the colors, you are just asking them to arrange the flowers differently- plus, they told you you didn't need to come in--obviously, you did! I'm sorry you have to deal w/ this so close to your wedding!!!

I agree with you and hope that things get figured out. But, I am afraid that if you argue too much with them, they may not do as nice a job with your flowers.
I hope everything looks gorgeous.... no matter what color your flowers are, your day will be amazing

I'm dying to know which florist you used. That is insane! I would go nuts if that happened to me. I would probably even go so far as to get those 'shame on you' people on the florist.....EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW NEVER TO MESS WITH A BRIDE!

I am from Westcheste, so that's where the florist is from, so most of you do not have to worry
I will update everyone tomorrow after they call me. I am three waying FH on the phone because he is definitely more assertive than me. Wish me luck!

As long as there is no stipulation in your contract you ahve to the right to order what you want......Especially if she does not jsut specialize in bridal flowers they can use the flowers elsewhere!

I can't believe they would order flowers for you before finalizing everything. I'm really curious to know which florist it is too. I'm not from LI and a lot of my friends are using florists in westchester. Hope everything works out

Re: Florist Vent, Need Advice...UPDATE

UPDATE: So today I got the call to do the so called finalization and everything turned out pretty well. It seems like I got basically what I wanted. Now we will see what happens on Friday. The woman I talked to seemed nice, and I was able to add flowers to the centerpieces and it looks like the bouquets are going to be the color I want. We will see though.

FYI as to your question on overnighting flowers - -
I'm not sure how they work in Westchester but I would think it's similar to LI. Here, at least for some of the flowers, the florists use wholesale flower companies. These places open like 6am and the florists call in orders. If they call early enough the orders go out in the early delivery and get to the shops by maybe noon.
