This is officially my first question on this site, as I just registered a little while ago. Although I've been engaged since February, I only recently turned to the site for help. So far, it has been very helpful. My question is: How much negotiating / haggling do people normally do at vendors. For example, one florist quoted me $160 for high arrangements and another very reputable florist quoted me $100 for the same ones. Of course I'd prefer the florist for $160, but should I try to haggle?

Haggle. It doesn't always work, but you are always better off trying than not.

first off, welcome to LIW!
but i don't understand, why would you prefer the $160 florist if the other florist is quoting you for the same thing? a high price means very little for quality. if a florist is reputable, go with it.

Re: florists
Thanks for the welcome...
The florist that quoted me $160 is Flower Michele which everybody raves about. LA Blossom quoted me $100. They are the same except Flower Michele claims to be able to get this beautiful hydrangea that I want that other florists claim is a fall flower. I was just wondering if I should go back to them and tell them other florists are giving me the same thing for sixty bucks cheaper. They claim this special hydrangea doesn't jack up the price.

Definitely haggle. I had the same situation, exactly the same actually, with those 2 florists. I want green hydrangea and John said he could get them and Laurie said no such animal. The quotes between the 2 for me were a tad off (I can't remember how much but definitely not $60) so I am going to go with John and see if he'll match Laurie.

Re: florists
after reading on here for a while, you'll learn that some names are more popular than others. but that doesn't mean they're the best. i went to several popular florists--including flower michelle--who were so much more than my florist that i chose. and my flowers were beautiful. honestly, don't go on popularity, go with who you trust can do the best job. your wedding isn't a popularity contest--it's a wedding and whether you use flower michele or a vendor who doesn't pay to be a vendor, it won't matter! go with what works for you. and if every other florist insists it's a fall flower...then i'd tend to believe them...but that's me!
i had this site bookmarked. it's UK, but it will help. flower seasons
Are the hydrangea green with burgundy tips? If they are EVERY other florist says that it is impossible to get them for a July wedding. Flower Michele assures me they can. I didn't meet with John, though. I met with Barbara. I never see her name mentioned on the site. She was very nice and knowledgeable. Should I request to meet with John when I go back? I am thinking of making a follow-up appt for next week.
