I went to several florists this weekend and I was shocked by the prices. I went to Flower Michele back in the summer and got a quote, which included all decorations on top of my centerpieces and bouquets and simple cake decorations and something simple for the cocktail tables. When i got the quote it was very high....or i thought. I went to 3 more appts this weekend and now without the decorations because my aunt who is a designer is going to do them for me.... they were all almost $700 more then the quote i got with all the decorations!!
I figured that with just the bouquets and centerpieces and cocktail tables, i would cut cost.....but i guess not. The average price i got was $3300. Is this high? My flowers are mostly roses.....and i have quoted for 18 tables, 10 cocktail tables, 6 bouquets plus mine, 4 corsages, 9 bouts, cake decorations and thats it. I feel like im doing something wrong. I do have orchids going into mine and my maid of honors bouquets...but how do i cut cost? I think im going to make another appt for flower michele because i think they will give me the best deal...or im hoping.

Re: Florists....can't decide
flowers are expensive in general, so it sounds about right, but if another place is gonna offer you them with the flowers ontop then get them...cause what you've mentioned you're getting 28 tables decorated....whether big or small for cocktail, it's still a lot to decorate

I'm spending a lot less than that. Flower Michelle wasn't the highest quote I recieved and it wasn't the lowest either. But I chose my florist because I didn't want to spend so much on flowers.

Re: Florists....can't decide
For some reason flowers are important to me...and that is where i am having the problem because FH doe NOT want to spend so much.
I guess i will be calling and making another apt this week to see what the new quote will be. I just stress thinking i don't want to make the wrong choice just to save a few dollars. Even though i really need to save every penny that i don't have.

Flower Michelle's quote was in the middle of my quote range and I've always heard good things about their work. You should definately talk to them and ask them to come down a bit.

That seems like a high price to pay but if you want it go for it! Flowers are important ... I'm trying to save by DIY centerpieces... I'm looking into getting some decorative vases and growing my own special flowers. I like the wild flower look and feel it would fit nicely into my naturalistic theme... Check out DIY ideas at Michael's Craft store... maybe get silk for the MOB corsages and the boutineers?? Good Luck!

Re: Florists....can't decide
if you're doing high centerpieces then yes it will cost more. High cp's are between $125-200 in general. Lower will cost alot less. You said your cp's are roses, well usually roses cost less than alot of other flowers but are you getting the big ball of roses for the cp? if so then that might be why bc it takes ALOT of roses to do that so thats the reason

Flower Michele gave us the most for our money so it just made sense to us. Our RH includes table decorations for the CH, they're just as simple as a rose in a glass bowl. Very simple and elegant. Maybe you can do something like that? Just negotiate with them.

Re: Florists....can't decide
I went with Flower Michelle they gave me a fair price. to save money we went with low centerpieces try using a big flower like hydrangea (that might be better than all roses because you need a lot less) also I am doing all the cocktail hour decorations myself. since the tables are small I am putting a decorative candle on every table and a bud vase with a fake flowers (one stem with 3 flowers) on every other table. cocktail hour will be so fast and not everyone will sit at a table so I didnt find it necessary to use expensive decorations. also something you can look in to is candle centerpieces, there are some that are beautiful and very inexpensive.
