Ohhhh, very pretty phaleanopsis (sp?)!

I'm sure it won't die...I'll get my 'orchid bible' and type out the care instructions for this species later.

Re: Flower

'Phalaenopsis are everybody's orchid: they can be grown with great minimum of care to produce numerous flowers over an extended period.

Phalaenopsis can bloom at almost any time, and it is not unusual for one plant to bloom two or three times in one year and to remain in bloom for many months. It is important, however, that the plant continues to make new leaves at the same time as flowering. If too many leaves are shed, you should cut off any floewring spikes and allow the plant to grown until it has three or four leaves before allowing it to produce flowers (I'VE NEVER DONE THIS!!!!)

Temp: Warm-growing (winter, MINIMUM 65 degrees)

Avoid waterlogging. High humidity is not necessary; lacing the plants on a humidity tray provides the appropriate level (I did this in the beginning, but the past year I stopped, and it hasn't made a difference).

Wipe the foliage with a damp cloth to clear of dust, but do not allow water to run down into the center of the plant, where it can lead to rotting.

It needs sun...but not direct glaring sun...like I said, in the winter months I give it direct sun, and in spring, summer...indirect.

I water them once a week....
use a spouted watering can...when you apply water, give it enough to flood the surface, allowing the water to run through, then repeat the process, this will ensure a good soaking.

The book says: Water a typical orchid once or twice a week in the growing season and once every two or three weeds while its resting.

That is gorgeous! I love orchids but I think I may settle for a nice fake- either I would kill it or my cat would eat it.
