if they need water maybe you could have a ribbion wrapped loosly around the stem & a small water tube at the bottom that will be covered by the ribbon. That will probably be more than $5 but it will still be cheap.

it's totally simple and sophisticated - regular calla lilies are large so it will look great! and if you want you can get a bo-k of mini callas, i've nevr seen how it looks with a bo-k of 5 large.

I love callas so I think it's a great idea. The one thing I was told was that callas hold a lot of water in their stems and have a tendency to drip. For that reason, you see them most often wrapped at least half to 3/4 of the way down with ribbon. Keep that in mind so you don't stain your dress or the girls'. You should talk to your florist about that to be sure. I think one calla tied with a flowing ribbon would be gorgeous!
