I am going to start calling hotels for my out of town guests. Where did you get the best rate and how much? I hear the Hampton Inn in Commack has the best and its closest to my house so that was my first choice but if there is one cheaper I'd love to know so maybe I can negotiate a bit.
Thanks a million ladies!!!!!!

Re: Flowerfield brides
We have a LOT of people coming from out of town so we wanted a hotel that would be close to Flowerfield. I soon learned that there was not a whole lot of options. We decided to go with the Holiday Inn Express Stony Brook. We blocked off 35 rooms with each room being 149.99. The hotel provides a shuttle to and from Flowerfield and will also pick up their guests at Isp airport.

Re: Flowerfield brides
we had guests stay at the Hampton Inn in Commack since it was close to my parents. (not a flowerfield bride though)
They gave us a rate of $120 (?), but ran internet specials for $110. I got the word out to my guests about the special.
where do you live? I grew up in that area.

That was on my list of places to call! That is too cool that they pick up people from Islip.
I thought the shuttle stopped at 11:00 and that it was $25 per hour to go back to FF after 11. They must have extended it as the reception ends at 12:00.
Thanks so much for the input.
P.S. Did you ever get those pics I sent?

Hi Lisa,
I live over by Emilios in the baseball section. $120 is a great price and I will definitely check the internet for specials for them.
Although - I need a ton of people to say no to afford the wedding so maybe I won't let on

Yes I did...I love them! The shuttle might stop...I am a saturday afternoon bride so it won't effect me too much. Other hotels to check is the Marriott in Islandia and Danfords Inn in Prt Jeff.

Re: Flowerfield brides
Great - glad you liked them!
I am going to call every hotel that is near a major roadway for all my guests b/c they all live in NJ so it'll be easier for them.
This is the most difficult part of the wedding.

Re: Flowerfield brides
Debbie - I am literally freaking out. I told FH he has to limit his list to like 50 people tops (I have 150 b/c my family is HUGE).
My mom said well if you can't afford it have Neil give you money - he just bought us a house....there is no money left. We are house and wedding poor.
I figure we invite 200 and hopefully 40 don't show (wishful thinking). Because it is November and close to the holidays (hopefully) the crew from Florida won't show and there is 20 right there.
Is it bad to pray for declines? Every time I get one I'm going to run out on the front lawn and do cartwheels.

Re: Flowerfield brides
Vinny was pretty easy to deal with. Very friendly. These tips aren't necessarily directed at working with him - just things I learned from going through it
lets see:
if a pose feels awkard to you, most likely it looks awkward too (I have a bunch of these - they look too posed).
Talk to him ALOT before the wedding to give him a feel for what type of pictures you're looking for. If you want more candids and casual shots - make sure he knows that.
Have someone around to 'help' - in some of my pictures I would have arranged my dress differently or held my bouquet differently. I just let him pose me and then stood still.
make a list of pics/poses you want and make sure you get them done. Give him example pictures. The day of the wedding you're so happy that you're not paying much attention and you're happy to blow off something that you'll want after the fact.
we have a bunch of sepia, but no black & white. I'm not sure why not - I would've liked some.
We recently took some pics in San Francisco to capture the poses I wish we had from our wedding day. You can see them throughout this thread If you want this style, let Vinny know you do. I wish we had communicated more beforehand - but I have great pictures!
Lisa - they are AWESOME!!!!!!!!! I remember a few from your wedding day that I loved and I specifically asked for Vinnie - he seems very creative. I don't want anything too posed, more 'classic' and spontaneous. If you have any favorite shots FM them to me and I'll be sure to print them and take them to him. My fav is the one of the two of you sitting on the floor.....even mom commented on how great it was.
I started a list of must-haves already. I am going to make the poor guy crazy but that is what we pay them for :)
We still have to go for engagement shots. I want to work with him before the big day to get an idea of what it'll be like and he can get a feel for us too.

Re: Flowerfield brides
thanks I like that one too - the photographer made us an 8x10 of that one. (All these pics were free)
I hate that shutterfly cut our heads off. Here's the non cropped version.

Lisa - even if you send the link to your wedding pics that would be a HUGE help. I REALLY appreciate all your input and help.
If you're ever in NY I'll treat you to a slice of pizza :)
Off to sleep - goodnight!
