FMIL.....

FMIL.....

FH and his mom had a huge blow out...... she has been nothing but nasty to him and went as far as saying 'I dont care if I ever speak to you or see you again' on top of calling this wedding a burden (when she hasnt even offered any help), keep in mind this was all after she told me and him that shes so happy to have me in the family and all that ish...

Well things got real bad with FH and his mom. She sits there and cries poverty BUT comes to NY from PA to shop on the upper west side (never even calls to invite us for dinner or tell us shes in town), sooooo last convo he had with her she said that he and I need to make a decision if we want her there due to the issues at hand.... She started to demean him again and he closed the convo with ' I am not going to consult nikki on this and I am going to make the decision for you, I dont want you at the wedding'

Ugh why are FMIL so difficult? Is this really the way she wants to leave things? My fam would NEVER fathom saying this..

IT makes me sad that families can really treat their kids like that..

Re: FMIL.....

I agree...

He has tried to talk to her.. which is the worst.

She treats him like a child and screams at him....

The other sad thing is that if it doesnt directly involve her she doesnt care......

I am sorry to hear about this. Do you think he will regret it in 10 years not having his mom at the wedding? If so then I would talk to him.

I'm sorry to hear you are going through this. My FMIL on the other hand is incredible, it's my own father that is like your FMIL. All I can say is just be supportive of your of your FH. It's a rough situation.

Re: FMIL.....

My FMIL is giving FH and I a rough time too...
All I can say is just hang in there and be there for FH. He might end up regretting his decision later on down the road as someone else mentioned, but if this treatment has been going on for years and it has never been different maybe he made the right decision by telling her no she cant come...just make sure he is thinking clearly about the whole thing and that his judgement isnt clouded by emotion.
it really stinks to be in this situation and any help you need I am sure all of us LIW girls will be here to help!!!

agreed. unfortunately sometimes weddings bring out the good, the bad, & the ugly in people..it's so annoying because it's supposed to be such a wonderful time. But u do have time...hopefully in a few days/weeks or however much time they need, they'll both be cooled down & can have a heart to heart conversation. I know ur not a fan of ur FMIL, but as hard as it may TRY to encourage ur FH about talking to her...and to NOT get heated when he does(no matter how hard it might be lol). No matter what the circumstance is, it is his mom...and deep down somewhere i'm sure there will be a little hurt & regret for the both of them if she doesn't come. Like i said..hopefully things will calm down and ur FH will be able to talk to her i hope things work out! Keepin' the situations in my prayers

Re: FMIL.....

Sorry to hear about the situation, Nikki. Unfortunately, we can't pick our families. Sometimes families have blowouts so big they don't talk to each other ever again. I have had my own taste of that and it *****. Sad to say, but sometimes it is better when some family members don't talk. However, I hope that this is not the case for your FH and FMIL.

And it is sad (but true) that sometimes weddings cause trouble instead of bringing people together. Hang in there!

I'm sorry, that is absolutely horrible. We've been dealing with some similiar nonsense and all you two need to remember is its about you, no one else.

WOW!! I feel so bad! Hopefully all of this is just hurt feelings and you can all sit down and resolve this....maybe she is acting like this because she is 'losing her baby..'

I don't know... I just hope this all works out...why do wedding sometimes bring out the worst in people???
Good luck!

Re: FMIL.....

mine is the same way!!! she is really messed up:( she told fh 'goto hell i don't want to talk to you' and then a week later called fh like nothing ever happened
i don't like it and i don't think i want to have her in my life is she treats him like that

Re: FMIL.....

I would have him talk to her, thats definitely important. He should tell her that it upsets him that she says those kinds of things and that he wants it to be a special day for her. maybe leave it as is for a little while and see if she comes around. If not, truthfully, she still should be invited and considered as coming. Just in case. Regardless let it be her decision on if she shows or not. DO NOT let her being a child affect your planning stages, you will regret it later for letting her annoy you~both of you!!!

WHen she says she wants nothing to do with it, just ok her and let it go. ITs tough but if she wants to be that way dont stoop to her level
