FMIL

FMIL

Me and my FMIL have our differences and last night we sat down to talk. I have never been made so worthless and belittled in my life! She thinks I don't do enough for my FH and the stuff I do do isn't right. My Mom is so relaxed and mind her own business and his Mom put her nose where it doesn't belong and plays the victim role when told to butt out. My FH is perfect but IDK how to deal with his Mom anymore

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. Have you spoken to FH about what she said?

Re: FMIL

I'm sorry you have to deal with this, but you are not alone!! FMIL does not like me at all. She thinks I have held FH back from living the life SHE wanted for him (meanwhile he has told her over and over its his life and this is what he wants). She argues with everything we say and do. FH and I have 2 kids and she does not listen to anything we tell her about how we are raising them and completely underminds us infront of them. She has said many things that are not nice. We have tried to talk to her many times but nothing ever gets through. It is so frustrating! We now just try to let it roll off our shoulders (MUCH easier said then done!) because she is not going to change and nothing she says is going to get between us. But I understand it is still hurtful :( hang in there!!!!!

Sorry that you're going through this

I think your FH needs to have a talk w/his Mom. The last thing anyone wants is a riff between you & his mother causing a strain on everyones relationships. I just think down the line when you guys have kids; and she's gonig to want to be included in their lives. She's going to have to form a better relationship with you as their mom and as his wife.

Join the club. I'm sorry that you are dealing with this. At least you had the sit down with her and talked some stuff out, even if you don't like the result. FH needs to talk to her and let her know that you trump her and that is just the way it is going to be. She needs to respect you, or loose him.

Or you can just go my route and let it roll off your back and wait until you have kids, that is when you plot your revenge. (ok ok I know this is not the best way to handle it, but it makes me feel better to know that I have some control)

Re: FMIL

You're not alone...my FMIL is not a fan of mine either. I've gone through the cycle...I've tried my hardest to please her without success, I've tried to be nice and she still found fault. I accepted that she'd never like me but decided I could live with it. Then she pulled some major shiz that really upset FH and now I'm pretty livid with her...and I don't really give a damn if she doesn't like me because FH doesn't care about her opinion and that's all that matters. If she has less contact with her family because of her actions against me that's her own dang fault.

I guess my advice to you is to just continue to live the life you want to live...she will probably never change her mind, but then she's the one missing out on what could have been a nice relationship with her FDIL. No skin off your back.

I see this as a big problem for a lot of woman. I do think that the parents should not get involved in your relationship. If you and your FH are happy I say just work through it. He has to tell his mom to butt out- if he sticks up for u that is good also!!

Re: FMIL

i feel your pain, but my trouble comes from the FSIL. she's just as horrible as your story. ugh. i wish i could have another loving family, but that just won't happen. i always have to remind myself that i already have the greatest family, i don't need another.

Re: FMIL

It sounds like your FMIL is scared to lose her 'baby' so she is acting like a complete b*tch to make you life hell. I'm sorry you're going through this. I think you should have a long talk with your Fh and tell him how hurt you are - he should really say something to his mother. I hope things get better for you

I;m so sorry. Issues w inlaws is never a small matter.

Hopefully FH can talk to her and set her straight. If it was me, I'd wait and see and finally I'd say something myself. No one deserves to be forced to feel miserable.

I disagree about people saying you don't marry the family. Trust me on this...you do.

Just remember FH loves you and you love him. You;re making a life outside what our parents' preconceived notions.

Re: FMIL

I understand what you are going through completely, FFIL says FMIL is jealous of me!!!!!!!!!!! It's so ridiculous!!!!!! Saying nasty things about FH and I, I have never done any wrong to her. She got mad at Fh saying that he always takes my side!!! common what is she in second grade!!!! Whatever happened to people being happy for you, about weddings being a joyous occasion!!!!!!!

Re: FMIL

Sorry you're dealing with this nut. I think an In law problem can only get out of hand if the couple stops being a team. If FH is on your side and sticks up for you, they are only an annoyance, not a deal breaker.

Just think of her as an annoying coworker. Yes, you have to see them and be polite to their faces but eventually you get to go home and sleep with your FH
