I see this as a big problem for a lot of woman. I do think that the parents should not get involved in your relationship. If you and your FH are happy I say just work through it. He has to tell his mom to butt out- if he sticks up for u that is good also!!
ugh totally agree any smart woman knows you keep it to yourself, because FH is gonna marry you either way, so why put a bad taste in everyones mouth, tactless and tasteless!

Re: FMIL
Im sorry you are going through this I really hate people that do stuff like this! Obviously its not you! Your FH loves you and is marrying you so why is she saying stuff like that?! Not to mention its hurtful and upsetting to you Has your FH said anything to her about what she is saying?

Re: FMIL
One of my friends is married and can't syand her MIL. But she said I'm marrying him not his mother so she just puts up with her and tries to stay away from her as much as possible. So just remember ur marrying ur fh not his mother so just ignore her comments and go on living ur life the way u want to

Re: FMIL
that so *****, but honestly it's up to your FH to stand up to his mother. You are gonna be his wife, you are who he picked. SHE HAS TO RESPECT THAT.
I get along with my FMIL, however she once insulted me to my face....i mean it was the worst thing anyone had ever said to my face, i was devastated.
I told my FH and he BLEW UP- I swear if I hadn't stop him, he was ready to curse her out and never speak yo her
ANYWAYS the point was- my FH is very very very close to his mom - they call each other best friends
BUT when she insulted me, he was ready to defend me at all cost.
Your FH should let her know that it is unacceptable for her to bad-mouth you, insult you, be little you, or in any way disrespect you.
sorry i feel so strongly about this- but YOU ARE HIS PRIZE- she should be ashamed of making you feel like anything less then that

Re: FMIL
I'm so sorry you are going through this FMIL and I had an agrument about 3 years ago and I was not allowed to go over the house for around a year. It put a serious strain on FH and I's relationship however after some serious thought and talking with my family and friends I realized that her problem is really not with me but with the entire situation. Her little boy is growing up and its not all about what mommy wants anymore. His priorites have changed and he confides in someone else now. For some parents I think its harder to let go of their children and let them grow up. We are civil now, we will never have a mother-daughter relationship but I am ok with it. She is FH's mother and I will respect that but I also demand to be respected as FH's fiancee and soon to be wife. Good-luck! Talk to your FH it really is his battle that he needs to discuss with mother. It is totally unacceptable for her to make you feel worthless!

Re: FMIL
Wow. This story sounds remarkably familiar.
How long have you been engaged? FMIL and I went through a rough patch right around the time he bought the ring, of course I didn't know that then, and I was PISSED and he was backing her up (not in front of her though)
So maybe it's just a I'm losing my son kind of thing? Cause now our relationship is fabulous after she got over it.
I'm really sorry though, I know how hurtful that can be when you feel all alone and FH doesn't take your side.

Re: FMIL
My FMIL is no prize either. She hasn't insulted me yet, but I'm waiting for it. I'm so sorry you are dealing with this. The best thing is that FH is backing you up. That is awesome!
