Re: fmil
I've seen MOB's wear champagne and it looks fine...I'd just make sure its a darker champagne or gold color rather than a pale champagne...JMO
ETA: If it was my mother, she could wear whatever she wants, and I know my FMIL is dreading getting a dress because she's not happy with her size...if she found something she loved and it happened to be champagne color, I'd tell her to go for it. I'm wearing ivory too.....I mean, as long as FMIL isn't wearing a ballgown, no one will think she is trying to upstage you.

Re: fmil
Depends on the shade of champagne. There are some companies that classify champagne as a dark tan-ish color, while other companies pretty much call ivory, champagne. Ask her for a swatch.

Re: fmil
I personally don't think they're close at all. Ivory is ivory and champagne is champagne. My dress is slightly 'off white' and my fmil asked me if she can wear champagne and I have no problem with it.
It's really tough to find an appropriate (especially age appropriate) color for the mothers to wear. I know my mom is struggling to find a dress for herself because I made a request that she not wear black, which is her go to color.
If you're really uncomfortable with it, talk to her and let her know how u feel. But, if u are mainly concerned that it's too close to ivory, I wouldn't stress it. At the end of the day, you're the bride, you're the main event, and everyone will know that!

Re: fmil
I think you shouldn't judge until you SEE the dress and the color. My mom wore champagne to my sister's wedding and it seriously looked NOTHING like the bride's dress, it was not too light, etc etc.

Re: fmil
my FMIL wore champagne to FBILs wedding, and it was fine! the dresses where too different colors, it wasnt even close.... it also depends on how light or dark the champagne is so suggest that if she does do champagne, it should be a darker

Re: fmil
It really depends on the shade of champagne. If its darker than your dress it will be ok
