FMIL and dress shopping???

FMIL and dress shopping???

I fell in love with a dress (yes I know it's super early - but when you know, you know) and I'm going back in a week to try it on for my grandmas, MOH, and my mom (she was with me the first time). My mom really thinks that I should invite my FMIL to come with us because she only has sons and I should be nice and include her in on the whole experience since she probably would never get the chance to experience it.

I'm undecided on the whole idea of inviting her. I see the point of including her and stuff. My FH doesnt see the big deal in having her come, but he doesn't understand the whole dress picking experience.

What did you do?

I actually went with my FMIL because my mother passed away 9 years ago but my FMIL also only has boys. I think when we got engaged she was more excited than I was about having a wedding because she's never been able to experience the whole big wedding thing. It can't hurt to include her. The worst that can happen is she gives you her opinion and you don't take it. At least you included her but it's totally up to you.

I wound up picking my dress when I went with my parents but I invited my FSIL & FMIL to see it at the end of August when FSIL is visiting down here.

My FMIL didn't come with me when I looked at or picked out my dress, just my mom and MOH. But I do plan on having her and FH's grandma come when I have fittings to see it. I have a really great relationship with my FMIL, and want her included, but still want the special moments to be with my mom (for instance, my mom was there when I picked my RH, but I brought FMIL to a showcase there afterwards to see it).

I don't know what kind of relationship you have with your FMIL, but she would probably really appreciate being included in wedding planning, especially if she doesn't have a daughter. But in the end its up to you.

My mom, FH grandmother and mom all wanted to go together and that was the original plan but my FMIL already found a dress she liked even before our appointment to the bridal store so I just let her be but I do think it's a great way to bond at least and it's also good to color coordinate their dresses.

I guess I probably should just invite her then. She's a nice person and all, but I'm probably just over thinking some things.

Brace yourself. You are most likely going to over think a lot of things. I know I have and my friends keep telling me not to worry. Just enjoy the moments no matter who is there. It will all work out in the end.

I invited her, but she ended up being sick and didn't come.

I invited her because FH is an only child and has zero cousins aside from one. I am also very close with her and of course I asked my mother first. She gave her honest opinions but was sure not to overstep my mother and MOH. She cried when I came out in my dress. I'm glad she was there to have that experience.

I think you should invite your FMIL, it is really a nice thing to do. I took mine with my along with my mother and sister, and I am so happy I did. It was a really nice day, and it is something my FMIL and I will always remember and share. Your FH will appreciate it as well. I think you should!

I'm not up to dress shopping yet, but I can't imagine not including my FMIL when I go to make a final decision. However, I am very close to her and her opinion means a lot to me.

In the end, it's up to you, but I think it would be a nice gesture to include her.

i bought my dress with only my mother - i regret not having my moh and fmil with me. i am inviting my fmil to my first fitting appointment though. my moh was with me when i went back to pick up my veil (and saw the whole package). its definitely a nice gesture.

I didn't invite her, just had my parents and my MOH there when I went dress shopping/bought my dress.

I haven't brought my FMIL to try on dresses, but when I go for a fitting I am going to invite her to come along. Having my mother and 2 sisters was enough of a crowd for me for trying on dresses! I think it's a nice gesture, but if you're not sure maybe just invite her to some things but not everything.

I think i'd extend the invite, it's a nice thing to do. She'd probably appreciate it.

If you and your FMIL have a good relationship I think its nice to extend the invite to her. If scheduling permits and she can go great, if not then at least you asked.
If you're really not comfortable with it, then I say once your decided take some pics of your dress and include her on what you selected.

I didn't invite her to hunt for dresses with me, but when I found my dress I offered to show her pictures and for her to come to the fittings. She only has boys and I thought it would be a nice thing to do. But she actually wants to be surprised on the wedding day! She did appreciate the invitation though.

I didnt invite my FMIL for dressing shopping or fittings. I only had my parents and sister there.

For some reason I didn't even think of it, and afterwards I felt really bad and regretted it. I don't know why I didn't think of it (she only has boys too) but I was so excited for my sisters, my 2 best friends and my own mom to be there, that I just forgot.
