FMIL Dress

Ok, so FMIL was harassing me about my mothers dress color. We told her a month ago. She still hasn't gotten a dress. The wedding is in 2 months and she hasn't even looked. She told FH that she was going to go to Pennies or Macy's for her dress. WHAT!!! Her first born and only son is getting married and she is getting adress off the rack?!?!?!?!? Is this normal? Do I say something or just let her get what she wants? I need to order her crosage and she said to get her white roses. I DON'T think so.

I really dont think people understand things. My FMIL showed me a dress she was thinking about wearing (umm first the wedding is in 26 days you should already have one) and it was an old dress she had. Also, it was all white! WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!!!!!!!! I told her hell no and if she doesnt have $ then I will buy her one. I really dont think people get things. Dont get mad but JC Penny does sometimes have nice mother dresses. Why dont you go shopping with her that is what I am doing? Also, the white roses no either!

Re: FMIL Dress

My mom and I actually found her gown off the rack at Dillard's or one of those stores down in NC (I don't remember which one) it was like Macy's or Bloomingdales. My mom's gown is beautifully beaded and just as nice as the ones we saw at the Bridal shop. The only thing is that we were shopping at Christmas time, so that's probably why they had such 'fancy' dresses (all those holiday parties).

If she's stuck on buying 'off the rack' then Lord and Taylor is usually a good place to look. If you're concerned with her color choice maybe you should consider going with her, or giving her some color suggestions...you know like - anything but WHITE!! LOL!

GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!!

I personally would avoid telling her anything because it might cause drama. If anything, I would tell your FH to say something or maybe you can suggest going with her to pick out the dress...'just to help out'

As long as she finds something nice then I don't think it should be matter that it's off the rack.

You'd be surprised but Macys does have gorgeous gowns for moms...Another two good places to try are Pzaz who now carries MOB/MOG gowns including manufacturers such as Mon Cheri and Montage. In fact my FMIL bought her dress there (check out my album). The other place that has a ton is Estelles who now has a MOB/MOG department. HTH

Great suggestions - I completely forgot about Pzaz & Estelle's. They have a serious amount of gowns there!! She can probably find something!

Re: FMIL Dress

JC Penney and Macy's definitely do have some really nice dresses depending on the season....I wouldn't get into a fight about it, it's her problem. It's not like she'll be in too many pictures anyway, and people will judge her, not you if she looks inappropriate. I honestly wouldn't worry about it, let her get what she's going to get!

My FMIL does not have a dress either, in fact she asked me if she could wear one she already had and I said what color is it? She said 'ivory', WHAT HELL NO PSYCHO!!! LOL She may show up in it anyway.

Re: FMIL Dress

My FMIL got a dress off the rack from Estelle's. At first I was shocked to find out that she wasn't ordering from a bridal shop. We went together and at first she picked out some dresses and I had to say absolutely not you can't wear that to my wedding. Some dresses were really nice but I was worried that they wouldn't be dressy enough. Eventually we found one with a lot of beading like a MOB gown at half the price so she was happy. I felt I had to be honest and not beat around the bush. I would definitely suggest Macy's or Lord and Taylor if she wants off the rack. FH's stepmom was able to find a beautiful dress to wear to our wedding at Lord and Taylor. Good luck!

Re: FMIL Dress

my FMIL didn't order a gown and, as far as I know, she went exactly one time to look for one. I tried to help her and invited her to go dress shopping but she declined so I decided not to let it worry me. She will be embarassed when she's underdressed for the occasion -- my mom will look fabulous

FMIL - I honestly could care less what she wears or where it comes from. She was invited to go along dress shopping/fitting with my Mom and bridesmaids and said she 'wasn't interested'.
Her loss.

Re: FMIL Dress

i came right out and told my fmil that i hated what she picked out to wear to our wedding (someof you ladies remember the rainbow coat) LOL i took her to Estells on 110 and found a beautiful silver and blk dress with a jacket- and she got it-

i came out and said that i would not put any photo up in my house with her in that outfit and it was not for a mog outfit- i guess she understood that this is our wedding and hopefully she is not spitefull and wear the rainbow coat- the final call is hers and she knows how i feel

all i can do is wait and see on my wedding day-

good luck with your fmil

Re: FMIL Dress

My mother bought a dress off the rack at Nordstrom and it's beautiful and completely different. Every dress for the bridal stores were the same pattern with some variation.

i wouldn't worry about it being off the rack at all... some of those stores actually have great dresses. both our moms got their dresses from Lord and Taylor. they both looked great and managed to not spend a fortune on them either.
its only one day... just worry about yourself looking great

Re: FMIL Dress

Is there a problem with getting a dress 'off the rack'?? My WEDDING dress is off the rack- my mother AND FMIL dresses are off the rack- and somehow- I don't think the world will end on MY wedding day because we didn't spend THOUSANDS on our dresses. You sound mean, and selfish and should not say a word to her.
